| Apparently you have something pointing to the other setup... which is overriding... I usually go into the control panel, devices, and delete the listed drivers. when I reboot, it should install the DEFAULT drivers. which are on the (WDDM) list at MS. if the drivers are not then use update and point to the latest version which is (WDDM) rated... not a BETA set.. Vista_R176 from Realtek gives me Vista driver for x86 : 6.0.1.5477 which is working perfect... and should also be your driver version...that is rated as MOST STABLE.. Very good on 0902 Bios... http://support.asus.com/download/dow...1&model=K8V-VM.

| Snuffy, Right, this is what I have done. 1. Uninstalled Desktop Calendar, TClock2, McAfee Site Advisor. Could not find Adobe Flash Player in the conmputer but whilst uninstalling the others, it disappeared and is no longer in the Currently running programs in Windows Defender. 2. Removed the SB Audigy sound card. In Control Panel - Sounds - Sounds tab I changed the drop down list from Windows Default to "No sound" 3. In Device Manager I uninstalled the old HD Audio Device Driver (dated 21 June 06) Reinstalled Realtek latest HD Audio Driver version R1.76 4. Changed the BIOS settings back to High Defination Audio Device. 5. Restarted Computer. Result: No Sound and computer freezes/hangs for over 2 minutes. Device Manager has reinstalled the old sound driver. Question : Where do I find the WDDM list of drivers. |

| You should leave the Sounds at DEFAULT... When you uninstall a device or programs.. you should SHUTDOWN (3 min) the system not just REBOOT. Reboot leaves all the info in memory... SHUTDOWN cleans the memory.. When you delete all lines in System\devices\sound there should be NO SOUND listed... that is why you have to SHUTDOWN. When you have no SOUND listed under device manager. then shutdown.. wait 3 mins. then START and let Vista find new devices and install the VISTA DEFAULT DRIVERS. --------------------------------------------- If you delete the hardware and shutdown then Vista thinks it is new hardware. When you install new hardware, Windows Vista can search four locations for drivers in the following order: the hard drive, the floppy drive, the CD drive, and Windows Update. However, you can configure the driver search locations to remove selected locations. I recommend you use Windows Update.

| http://nomoregoatsoup.wordpress.com/...tall-problems/ SB drivers can create many problems if not uninstalled correctly... and for some reason your system (you say reverts back to old bad drivers.) 1. after you remove the traces of SB. 2. make sure your sound is set for ANALOG not Digital. 3. make sure your speakers are good, pluged in and turned on. 4. when you TEST the sounds what happens. what are the Old drivers it keeps installing? when you open sound what are your settings for: 1. play 2. record 3. sounds

| Thanks for that information on Vista Drivers & Problems. Question: How do I set my sound to Analog ? I'm remember seeing it somewhere and I'm pretty sure it is set to analog. There is a speaker icon in my Taskbar next to the clock. When there is no sound there is a Red cross beside it and no volume control. And when I point my mouse at the icon a little note pops up saying "No Audio Output Device is installed"When the sound is on there are two )) beside the speaker icon and volume control available. The old Sound drivers that Windows keeps loading are: High Defination Audio Device Driver Provider : Microsoft Driver Date: 21 June 06 Driver Version: 6.0.6000.16386 Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows File location : C:\Windows\System32\drivers.drmk.sys When I open Sounds this is what I have : Playback : No devices installed Recording : Microphone, 36 HD Audio Device - Currently unavailable. Microphone, 36 HD Audio Device - Working. Line In, 36 HD Audio Device - Currently unavailable. Sound : Windows Default. |

| Since your install was UPGRADE, have you tried 1. you can also try SFC /scannow 2. REPAIR or 3. UPGRADE again... since it seems that somewhere you have a corrupt file. during your upgrade did you have any glitches at all.?
