| Depends on how many updates you installed... It might take a while if you allowed all original 86 updates to be downloaded and installed at the same time, and then if you have Office installed that would take more.... Give it time, 2 hours is not so long, I'd give it at least 5 hours, I did that on one and when we came back - yes it was just over 5 hours, it was finished. That is why the SP1 is recommended.... when you first install Vista and get on. shut off the auto install, and check so you can look and pick what you want installed... 85 to 90 will take a long time to configure...

| In fact the problem is NOT that I tried to install any or all of MS's updates, it is that after a Vista re-install, 'cos the computer just hung, I reinstalled from scratch using the disc that came with the TOSHIBA laptop. Then every time I switch on and BEFORE I get to any screen I can use, I get the message "please be patient" (sic) and then "Configuring updates..." There it stays for hours. Occasionally, if I'm lucky, it will pass, after several hours, to "Welcome" and then to the main screen. I found once on MS's KB that it is a problem when two languages are installed. (I haven't done that!) and Vista needs to clean up and the process can last several hours. So when I had the opportunity I set the laptop to "never shut down" and left it overnight. This seemed to work and it reset itself. That lasted a few days but then it's started over again and no matter what I do I'm now stuck on the "Configuring updates..." screen. From searching various forums I see that I am not alone. At least I've got a PC on WXP that I can use. Any ideas anyone? http://www.vistababble.com/forums/im...ies/thanks.gif ![]() |

| My suggestions: 1. Boot PC using the Vista DVD > Choose your language and click Next > Select Repair your computer > Select the Vista installation you want to repair and click Next > Now click Startup repair and follow instructions. 2. If the doesn't work: Follow the steps above, but this time instead of Startup repair try System Restore and select one of your earliest restore point
