Vista Lock Ups/freeze Ups,weird Behavior

Here is a copy of a portion of an email I sent to HP (to save me typing it out)

1 ) Program freeze ups. Where I have to close a program to get another to run. With 2 gigs of ram I shouldn't have to do this. Not multiple programs at once either I can have 3 running and have to shut down 2 just to get 1 running. It won’t allow me to right click, double click, bring up IE etc. It can run fine for about a half hour then I have the issue again.

2)On occasions I click on a folder either on the desktop as an icon or one listed when I click the Windows button and it does not show the items in the folder it takes me to a search screen. I have to restart the computer to be able to view the files in the folder. Then it will work fine for about a half hour then back to licking up. When on a website i notice a little "web page error" at bottom left corner at times. Or I try to view one of my pictures, it will flash as if it’s going to come up then doesn’t. Or I’ll click on a folder I know has items in them but they won’t show up, or if they do I click on them and they won’t open.

4) I purchased an HP notebook before this only to return it because of e same problems plus problems with the dvd/cd rom drive. Hoping it was just a fluke, it wasn't it appears.( I went through 3 HPs only to return them all)

Very frustrating problem, and no "techs" at HP had any clue how to fix it and I'm experiencing same issues with the Sony Vaio I bought as a replacement. I can't find this isue listed on any web forums either GRRRRR. On all the machines they were brand new with vista home premium installed. ON the last HP, a tech suggested don’t add any of my programs and see how it runs then add programs gradually, no luck with just there software still had same issues. Also had same issues when HD was reformatted it to factory condition. I've done adware scans, virus scans, RAM checks, software tweaks, you name it, nothing comes up or helps.

Only thing left I can think of is my Wireless Vonage Linksys router is having issues with Vista somehow. GRRRR, very frustrating, PLEASE HELP!!

Unhappy Vista freezing...

I`ve been having this problem recently . I believe it was due to some update.
I`m really fed up since I just can`t work continuously.

If anybody know how to recover all the system since the begining, let me know.

cheers,
Athila.

You might also click the task bar, open taskmanager, processes and see what is using all the memory.
Disable all Scheduled tasks...
Are we working on a HP or the Sony Vaio? either way both have major problems with Vista. Much of it is the TRIAL WARE, and other crud that HP and Sony add to there Vista version. (which is really not compatible) with Vista. You might use Vista Advisor and see which programs it tell you are not or might not be.
What I'd like to try is this on either system.. makes no diff to me.

Control Panel -> System -> Advanced system settings -> Advanced (tab) ->
Performance (section) -> Settings... -> Advanced (tab) ->
Virtual memory (section) -> Change... =>
Uncheck "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives" ->
Then select "No paging file" YOU MUST CLICK "SET" this is a must! ->
Then Click OK ->
Click OK ->
Click OK ->
and then Reboot, @ 0 I did have a few low memory issues, I then increased by 500 MB ... if the No Page File works. I have increased my to 2GB and have NO PROBLEMS ... things are much faster and I have NO HANGUPS/Freezes.

pleae post back with yes or no or something, the last 4 people with HPs and Sonys I suggested this to never posted back.... so I really do not know.

The fact that the PC runs fine for 30 minutes usually means that a new process is starting and ruining everything. When it is happening, open task manager (if right clicking the task bar doesn't work just Ctrl+Alt+Delete) and check what process is causing the issue. Remember to select 'view processes from all users'.

Crabby's suggestion should give you some idea... as to what, but incase it will not allow keyboard controls...

Since Vonage does have problems - Linksys routers should not have... I use Linksys and recommend Linksys... for Vista. infact my old junk BEFW11s4 works perfect.
but vonage and linksys together I'm not sure.

Dell does it too

Just acquired a new Dell Inspiron and I get the lock up problems. In the middle of anything there is a slight blip and then it's power down and reboot. I do not have a clue where the problem resides. Any ideas?

This to me is a VERY BAD INSTALL... you should do a complete upgrade/repair to Vista, and REMOVE all TWEAKS, and such...
apparently you applied so tweaks that are CREAKY.

A total Reinstall sounds warrantied.
