| Use the link to check and see if it is Vista Compatible... many older are, its just that some companies have not either upgraded there firmware or drivers to be Vista compatible... it also is a different way of saying "BUY NEW" if you want our Vista product... as you can see Philps/Benq do have a few NEW products which are Vista compatible.

He should be able to format the portion from within XP. As for the DVD, if Vista has been installed, but just freezes at certain point, I doubt it (the DVD) has anything to do with it...unless it's skipping over the disk. It sounds like a driver issue though. Had you tried disconnecting the slave HD and then reinstalling Vista?

I formated the drive using partision magic 8.0 and though XP on. I Have disconected the slave hard drive but that still seems the same. I also think it is a driver problem but its finding out which one is the problem. I have ran the upgrade advisor and that says vista is fine to run on my system. So surely if there was a hardware/driver problem then the upgrade advisor should of picked it up??..

How about installing Vista directly from the hard drive and disconnecting every piece of hardware you don't need to run the installation. There's a process to install Vista from the HD. I have not try it, but it appears you have run out of options: http://11011.net/archives/000645.html

I ran the system bare bone last night still got the same problem. So that should means its either the motherboard is not compatible or vista has not installed properly on the hard drive during the installation. Gona try your suggestion on installing it from the hard drive. I am also gona try and install it on my slave drive to see if there is any difference. Also is it possible to install it from a SD card as I have a 4GB SD card and I have the option on my BIOS to boot from my MMC drive. The thing is the card can only be formatted to FAT or FAT32 not NTFS dose this mater I know the hard drive has to be formatted to NTFS to install vista. Also when I installed vista on the last stage of installation it can up please insert disk in drive and gave the options 'cancel' 'retry' and 'continue' what ever I pressed it did not do anything eventually it went away. I did eject the disc and put it back in but still the same message came up.

Just had a reply from philips Thank you for contacting Philips regarding your DVDR1660P1. I understand from your email that this is not working with windows vista. Your Philips device is a plug and play device and therefore no drivers are needed in order to operate it on a Windows based system. However, download and install the latest Windows driver for your respective SCSI controller. After this, install compatible CD recording software and the drive can be used as a recorder. examples burning software: Easy cd creator---> www.roxio.com Nero Burning Rom--> www.nero.com I hope I have answered your question satisfactorily. If you have any further enquiries into this matter, please contact us and refer to your case number were do i find the windows SCSI controller.

You have the option of with this error, insert the Disk, and run REPAIR, or you can also run SFC /scannow to see what files were corrupted during the install due to reader failure. --------------------------- Quote:
SCSI drivers are to be installed prior to installing the OS, when it ask for any 3rd party drivers - F6- then insert media and install ... my source also tells me USB is Plug and play but your DVD system does not function correctly with Vista, due to the MS drivers do not recognize the Philips DVDR correctly, even if SCSI drivers are used ... He also recommended have you 'If your HDD is large enough - Install from your HD.. ' also note that Quote:
On my sisters system when she had Philips devices from Radio Shack-USA- They replaced the devices with devices not made by Philips, then all things worked correctly. Internal DVD devices are cheap enough it should be easy to BORROW or purchase a CHEAP Reader just to install via Disk. SAMPLE: my backup spare is Artec VOM-12x48 DVD-R/W can be found all over for $35.99- USA which is Vista Compatible and works GREAT...

Hi there ok im starting to run out of ideas now, installed vista with another DVD drive. Install took about 30mins but still have the black screen problem at the end of installation and boot up and shut down and vista is constantly locking up when it has eventually booted up. But is ok in safe mode no problems there. I was looking at the system information in safe mode and noticed that I have some I/O, DMA and IRQ conflicts: I/O Port 0x00000000-0x00000CF7 PCI bus I/O Port 0x00000000-0x00000CF7 Direct memory access controller I/O Port 0x000003C0-0x000003DF PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge I/O Port 0x000003C0-0x000003DF VgaSave IRQ 23 Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller IRQ 23 Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC IRQ 19 Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller IRQ 19 Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller IRQ 19 Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller Memory Address 0xA0000-0xBFFFF PCI bus Memory Address 0xA0000-0xBFFFF PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge Memory Address 0xA0000-0xBFFFF VgaSave I/O Port 0x000003B0-0x000003BB PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge I/O Port 0x000003B0-0x000003BB VgaSave If I remember correctly you can not have device running on one I/O address is this right? In device manager everything seems fine (shows no conflicts on the mentioned devices). But it won’t let me manually change the I/O addresses. Do you think that this might be causing the black screen problem and the system lock ups?
