Hi there guys, I have just installed a copy of windows vista ultimate on my pc went though the installation process fine took about an hour or so. On the last stage of the install before it boots to the desktop I get a black screen and it hangs there for about 10-15mins then goes to the preparing your desktop screen and stops there for further 5-10mins. eventually the desktop comes up with the welcome screen hangs there for 5mins and then it seems to run ok but then randomly it will freeze up for about 5mins. (this can be doing anything IE,control panel, device manager etc.) and it keeps on randomly doing this. It also takes about 20-30mins to shut down this also goes to a black screen. I have done 3 clean installs but it still dose it I thought it might be the graphics card so installed vista without it still the same. I have managed to install the vista drivers and they all seems fine in device manager. If anyone can help on this I would much appreciate it this is doing my head in. | First things I recommend in DL and run Vista Advisor, the latest version. Then delete/disable every thing that Vista Advisor tells you might not work or will not work. Also I recommend you go to MSI site, and download every Vista Driver that is for your system.. then you can point it to the correct driver if ask. http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?f...=1&prod_no=228 Get the drivers and latest Bios... FLASH the BIOS. I also do not see the Vista Sticker any where on your Mobo. How did you install without your Video card? Quote:

| Since he did a clean install, I don't think the advisor could help him...it could, but I doubt it. The issue could be a driver, but it could be a motherboard issue. I would disconnect the Win XP hard drive to isolate it, just in case. Also, whether it's the issue or not, download and install the latest motherboard BIOS update. Also, like Snuffy stated, make sure to download the latest Vista drivers that you can find for your hardware. And, he's right, if it takes you over an hour to do a clean install, something is not going well. |

| Hi there I did run the upgrade advisor and it did bring up my graphics card driver and the realtek high def audio driver as a possible proble. But that is a XP driver and I have installed the vista driver on vista. I will try and disable the audio driver or update it. I installed vista from a DVD iso file that i burnt dont think thats the problem i did burn it slow and somelse has done an install from it with no problems. I have disconected my slave hard drive but it is still the same. When i boot up just befor it goes to the black screen a message dose flash up but i cant read it. I will try and update the bios later on. |

What points did you get from: forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1965530&SiteID=1 - Aug 5, 2007 When I check the Data base for Vista I find the following noted. Quote:
Currently very few Philips/Benq/Quanta products are compatible... of the rest 50% are rated as "Works with Windows Vista" ... which indicates there can/will be many different problems..the rest of them are listed as Unknown. Your device - might work but is not compatible with and the drivers are not. Further notes state that using Vista Advisor should mark this device as doubtful, (recommend to not be used). Quote:

| Did you read my post above... SCSI CdRom Device Optical Drive PHILIPS DVDR1660P1 (DVD+R9:8x, DVD-R9:4x, DVD+RW:16x/8x, DVD-RW:16x/6x, DVD-ROM:16x, CD:48x/32x/48x DVD+RW/DVD-RW) Quote:
The best I can offer is contact the manufacture and see if/when they will upgrade there products to Vista.... since very few of them are...relate back to my post above then visit [page 1] for the devices which work under Vista. Quote:
