When I start up my computer, after the desktop has opened, I'll get a note on the bottom right of screen telling me my printer is disconnected. And when I turn the printer on, the window comes up again telling me it's ready. Then I shut the printer back off, it tells me it is disconnected. It's an HP computer and an HP printer. Is there something in particular that makes this happen? Can anything be done to stop this? I'm not connecting and disconnecting the printer, I'm just turning it on and off! lol Last edited by NSZteg : 01-17-2008 at 01:39 AM. |

| Hummm? That never happens to me. I wonder if the effect is an HP-to-HP peculiarity. You could call HP support on this one if no one comes up with a solution. You could also simplify things and just interpret the message as saying that your printer is either turned off or disconnected. And, while green is good, we never turn our printers off.

Same thing occurs with my units. It just is an advisory message that your printer is either available or not. It does not mean you have disconnected the cable between the PC and the printer. It merely means that the power to the printer is either off or on, thus the printer is either available or not. I suspect that most folks leave the printer on and thus do not get the multiple messages other than the first on on startup that tells you the printer is connected. |

I turn my computer totally off if I won't be using it for a few hours, like when I go to work or to bed. |

| You are correct that this does not disconnect the printer. I would like to know the model of both your PC and printer please. When a new HP printer switches 'off' it is only in a standby state and will automatically switch on when a job is created, does it do this? If so then the pop up should not show. I own an HP printer which doesn't display this issue, so I believe it is probably related to the model of printer you have. crabby |
