felix8406 will become famous soon enough

I've never heard of a Beta BIOS update before and that's really strange. A beta means a testing software; not necessarily a complete or final product. A BIOS update gone wrong can turn a motherboard useless. That's why I find it strange that a manufacture will put out a Beta for a BIOS update.

You can try this:

1. Find the latest driver for your sound card (If you can't find one for Vista, get the latest XP driver)
2. Download the file and save it on your HD
3. Create a folder on your desktop
4. Extract the file or save the temp file to the folder you just created. (When you open the folder, it'll normally ask you where to save the file). DO NOT LET THE APPLICATION TO INSTALL ITSELF.
5. Right click 'Computer' and select Properties
6. Select Device Manager
7. Go to sound, Video and game controller
8. Right click your sound device and uninstall it
9. Restart the PC
10. When Vista start it'll begin to install the hardware. Manually point Vista to the folder where you extracted the driver

Sorry Snuffy, I din't realized that by the time I had typed and posted you had already posted.

Thank you for the link.
This is for Dell PCs but mine is "hand" made. Install that anyway?
There is also usual SoundMAX Vista drivers, not from Dell and bigger in size http://totallydrivers.com/device.php?id=124010 What is the difference?

Thank you for reply,
I will try that as well if things I am trying now are not working but I am not sure whether it will work, after I installed Vista I was installing many devices in this way but SoundMAX was installed using Setup program as the result.

Tried everything and I still have both bluescreen and bad sound.
Maybe I'll try the upgrade option of Vista but it won't be soon.

And btw slots 1 and 3 for memory is dual channel mode (and slots 1,2 are for single mode).

OK, sorry for all the problems. What you might try;
1. open control panel... system --> Device Manager --> located sound ... and delete every entry under the SOUND.
2. close back to desktop.... then REBOOT... and on restart let Vista look on the WEB and Find the Vista Default Drivers and Install...

Let me know what happens.

also you say you built the system...

Vista Advisor shows that my soundcard has old drivers.
All info I was able to find about my sound card is in my first post here.

Maybe it's Microsoft should make some update for Vista ... (?)

with 21,000 different devices currently working.. and more on the way...
Maybe it would be nice if SOUNDMAX made new drivers and then had them signed by MS...then offered them on there website...
here is excellent reading :

What if you want to play it safe and find out if there are new drivers for all of your existing hardware before you install Windows Vista? Then download and run Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor from the Microsoft website. It will scan your computer and identify any hardware problems you might encounter if you install Windows Vista. You'll also learn which components and devices you should upgrade or replace.
Always get the latest Vista Advisor. Then you might also check the MS Data base for the latest approved drivers. I just checked and found 11 different references to/for SoundMax Drivers.
