Volume Control disappear from tray

Hi!

I've got noticed that my Volume Control icon that was on tray toolbar had suddenly disappear...

When I'm hiting right click on the start toolbar > properties > notification area > system icons I can see that the only feature that enabled is the clock feature, the other ones are in gray color.

I installed my new ATI 9600 graphic card, maybe it's affected by the installation, because since then I havn't this icon on tray.

Thanks,
Ofir

Well, I suppose my first 3 questions are;

1. Do you still have sound?
2. Can you get to the volume control through the Start menu (Programs->Accessories->Entertainemnt->Volume control)?
3. Is you sound card still a happy chappy (check it has no conflicts in device mannager)?

Thanks for the answer

1. Yes, I have sound, and I didnt have any hardware/driver problems.

2. I hit Start>Accesories and than I couldn't find the Entertiment menu, maybe it should be in other place ?

3. As I told you, I don't have any problems with the VIA AC'97 device, I think it just ticking a checkbox or something like that.

Thank you very much,
Ofir.

Going for the simple solution - Have you tried Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices and clicking the box down on the left side which says "Place the volume icon in the taskbar" ?

Thank you all for the answers.

As I said before, my checkboxes in "system icons" are not working, just the 'clock' does.
See pic below:

Josh what you mean when you said "vista tweak thing"?

Since it’s “grayed” out, it means that either the Sound Level is not available or not the default volume control, so what Josh is saying above does make sense. A program designed to tweak the OS can override some of Vista’s default settings. Since there’s a sound coming from the PC, the driver appears to be working fine. I suspect that a particular program has override Vista’s default setting.

Sorry, I must have misunderstood what you said about check boxes. Check out this thread on the tweak program:http://www.vistababble.com/forums/vi...ighlight=tweak I liked it a first, but quit using it pretty quickly because I believed it to be doing "unauthorized," by me, things. If you are using this, or a similar, program, then I try getting rid of it.
