I downloaded a small program called Collage-Maker the other day to try, didn't like it, so uninstalled it.

Somehow all my desktop backgrounds, including the Vista ones have disappeared along with Collage-Maker. I have looked everywhere relevant and they are nowhere to be found.

Can I restore them off the Vista disk?

Try a system restore to a point before when you installed the now uninstalled program. Otherwise, you might want to do a repair install assuming you have a full Vista disk. In this regard, I am not sure if an upgrade disk will do the trick.
