I'm having trouble with my computer lagging when I open a file with large amounts of video files in it (10+ gb). The computer takes a loooong time to refresh the folder when I first open it. When I click on a video file, it takes a long time to open, and sometimes I get a "Windows Explorer Has Stopped Working" error. I'm running a dual core 2.4 ghz with 3 gigs of ram and an 8800gt video card, so I should have pretty smoking fast performance. Could this be a virus or malware of some kind? My Norton scans and all my free spyware scans are showing nothing... Justin |

| At this point I would try a tool that I love called cccleaner. CCleaner - Home It will clear out ALL of the junk files that may be causing some of it. Look at what you check mark. |

The file isn't 10 gb, that's the size of the folder. Many different files of all sizes in it. Some divx included as well as xvid, wmv, etc. Are you suggesting that I just download the newest divx codec? I think I'm running K-lite codec pack right now. I also considered disabling thumbnails, but that makes it hard to figure out what's what especially with jpegs. Is there a way to disable thumbnails just for video files? thanks for all the help! ps-i use ccleaner and like it but it's not helping with this particular problem... |

| Try setting the folder so that it does not show thumbnails. Dredging up the thumbnails may be slowing things up.

| I just hope that it's not an installation issue ![]() We have had quite a few people with these sort of issues find that reinstalling works like a chram because Vista has decompressed correctly on installation. crabby |

Is it possible to set a specific folder only so it doesn't show thumbnails? i tried opening that huge video folder and accessing through Organize-->Folder and Search Options-->View and selecting "Always show icons, never thumbnails." This changed my view settings for all folders on the computer. That's not what I want since I now can't see any thumbnailed jpegs anywhere either. Can I somehow restrict the "no thumbnail" to the problem folder? Thanks for your patience. I'm still learning! |
