| I just installed RC1 and every time I log on explorer loads for about two seconds and then crashes. I can run programs through the Task Manager but I can't get a start menu or anything else because explorer just keeps crashing. I've disabled all non-microsoft services, all non-essential startup items, and gone down to basic hardware. PLEASE HELP! ![]() |

| It sounds like a bad install to me. Explorer has not been overly stable historically in Vista,, but your case sounds extreme to me. You could try to repair RC1 with your DVD or, obviously, you could try reinstalling.

| I ended up using an XP Live cd to get into the system and move everything to my slave drive before I reformatted and did a clean install of Vista. Now everything works fine so I guess it was just all jacked up the first time. It was a simple solution but after 5 hours of guess work I just gave it up. |

| Glad you got it sorted out. I wish you had tried the repair first, or did you?

| RC1 is buggy, as Crabby says, try an updated build. Also, make sure you are connected to the internet when you first install, or you will find the lack of updates will prevent IE from working. |
