Hi everyone, I have an HP Pavilion dv6137tx notebook pc (T5500 CPU, 1GB RAM, 120GB HDD, nVidia GeForce 7400 GPU). It came with Windows XP Media Center Edition but I opted to upgrade to Windows Vista Home Premium Edition using HP's Express Upgrade kit. I am facing the following problems: 1. Windows Live Messenger worked fine in Windows XP, but it doesn't work in Vista. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it. When I try to use it, it gives me the following error: Quote:
I can't figure out how to fix this. I really need to use Live Messenger, so please help 2. My webcam doesn't work in XP if I go back to XP. It just shows up as "USB Video Device". Anyway, in Vista the webcam does work, but in Scanners and Cameras, no camera is shown to be installed. Is this because my webcam is an inbuilt device? Or is there something wrong with it? 3. HP Battery Check keeps saying that the primary battery cannot be detected. Here is the screenshot: http://spinor.sitesled.com/scr-battery-check-vista.jpg. It also shows troubleshooting steps which I have tried, in vain. Any ideas? Thanks. Last edited by maverick280857 : 07-09-2007 at 03:15 PM. |

| Well hello there! 1) This error code is due to an invalid date in Vista. Click your clock in the task bar and 'Change date and time settings'. Then set the date correctly and it should work! 2) Haven't a clue why it doesn't show up but have never checked if mine does either (I always use the logitech software) so will have to get back to you on this. 3) The obvious first question I have is, does VISTA see your battery? Can you use it and does it show the power left icon etc? The problem is most likely an compatability issue between vista and the battery checker. This issue may have been resolved by HP so you should update from their website. You didn't mention which version of Vista you have so here is a link to the 32 bit (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...308822&lang=en) and 64 bit (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...308822&lang=en) download pages. Post back! crabby |

| Are you using the 8.5 BETA??? if you are try the stable version. if your using the non-beta try using the 8.5 BETA Also try signing in to Windows Live Mail with your user-name and password this will determine whether its a account problem. Windows Live Messenger Beta: http://get.live.com/betas/messenger_betas Windows Live Messenger http://get.live.com/messenger/overview

| Thanks crabby and AnthonyCook I am using Windows Vista Home Premium Edition (32-bit). By the way, just for my info, can I use a 64-bit version just because I have a Core 2 Duo CPU? Anthony, this isn't an account problem as I am able to check my Hotmail inbox (and hence log into my Windows Live Account). As for the battery, I have already downloaded the HP Help and Support and it is only after installing it that HP Battery Check shows up in Vista...the default Help and Support doesn't launch Battery Check. And HP say the battery may be faulty. But the Battery Check in XP says the health is good. Oh, by the way, before I install 8.5 beta (I have 8.1 non-beta right now), I want to wipe out the old one completely. Uninstalling through control panel doesn't help..when I reinstall this same version, it somehow picks up my proxy authentication details too, so I guess they're saved in some file(s) which don't get deleted during uninstallation. | Well I have only the 32-bit media so I'm not planning to upgrade. I tried 8.5 beta, it gives the same error. I am currently not using any antivirus or firewall program...why does it work in XP and not in Vista? This is weird...if I use XP I can use Live Messenger and not my webcam. If I use Vista, I can use my webcam but not Live Messenger. |

| I have given you the answer to your messenger issue above ^^ Please try that and post the result? If that doesnt work then you need to register a file. Click Start and search for run. Open it and type regsvr32 softpub.dll. Then reopen messenger. Finally if that doesnt work it could be due to an incorrect proxy. Messenger takes its poxy settings from windows explorer so open explorer, press alt. Go to tools, internet options. Then go to connections settings, lan settings and untick the proxy server box. crabby Last edited by crabby : 07-09-2007 at 05:17 PM. |

| I have set the date and time correctly in Vista. It is Monday, July 09, 2007 2105 local time out here. I will retry the registry commands. Also, I cannot uncheck the proxy box as I am on a campus network and have to use a firewall to access the internet. Since Live Messenger works in XP, firewall shouldn't be an issue...unless it has a problem with Windows' default firewall settings. |
