Hi, i have an issue with my windows media player 11. First of all, i have Windows Vista Ultimite x32. I recently found out that I was not sharing my media over my network, when I tried to look at file sharing in wmp, it wouldnt let me see/change the settings. A button popped out and gave me this message "Media sharing has been turned off because a required Windows setting or component has changed. For additional assistance, click Web Help." Later I did everything the web help told me, but nothing worked. I was thinking this was due to the K-Lite codec pack I installed recently, but after I uninstalled that nothing new happened. I also have a problem opening wmp. The only way I can open it is by going to Task Manager and exiting from WMP, and starting it again. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

| You have to go into the Network and Sharing center and turn on Media sharing and then check what you want to share in the setting and second have you tried a different link to start the WMP like from the programs list and by the way does your Media center working correctly. You may have to reinstall WMP 11

| I tried going to the sharing center, but it will not react when I want to click on the Change button. And the sharing center says that media sharing is on, but WMP says otherwise. Also, you can not reinstall WMP 11, I tried. Just like you can not uninstall Internet Explorer 7. |

| Try this: Click Start Button > Select your User name > Click AppData > Local > Microsoft > Right click Media Player > Properties > Security Tab > Advanced > Permission Tab > Make sure permission has been allowed; if not, click Edit to change

| I would do a repair install of Vista assuming you have an install disk.

| You could try your backup, but there's a posibility that the issue is present within the backup as well; it would depend of when the issue began. You could also try Znod's suggestion, but I'm not sure if a repair install will have any effects on your backup though. Technically Vista does not have a repair install as we know. With Win XP, you can boot to the CD and select a repair install, but with Vista you'll have to do an upgrade, which is basically the same, but must be done through Windows. Start your PC > Insert your DVD > Run Setup > Select the Upgrade option when prompted.

| No, the upgrade option will only upgrade the OS and will not format your HD. And, like I mentioned above, make sure to start the Setup within Windows, as opposed to booting from the DVD. Do make sure you select the Upgrade option though.
