| Hello everyone I am using Windows Vista Home Premium Edition on an HP Pavilion dv6137tx Notebook computer. When I try to activate vista, I get en error message with error code 0x8004FE33. This is because I am behind a firewall (on a campus network). The phone activation link does not work either, because it seems that the Windows Help and Support feature also does not support firewall(proxy) servers (it says: You have lost your connection to the Windows Help and Support website. Try to connect again. Connecting again doesn't help.) Here are the links to the two screenshots which show the error messages I get: http://spinor.sitesled.com/activation_scr_error.jpg http://spinor.sitesled.com/activatio...rror_phone.jpg HP Tech Support only said reinstall windows...now thats a huge thing to do. I have to first use restore dvds to get to XP, then upgrade XP to vista. Besides, I have a lot of running software/programs which I am in no mood to disturb. Is there a better way out of this? Thanks and cheers vivek Last edited by maverick280857 : 05-07-2007 at 06:52 PM. |

| Yes, first try inserting the DVD and (1.) repair or(2.) upgrade that way, also you can try (3.) SFC /scannow if you have any corupt system files SFC will correct that. Maybe reinstall windows your tech actually meant "repair the installation"

No, they meant recovery and not repair. I got two dvds: the first is a HP driver dvd which updates the flash bios and then asks you to insert the second dvd, which is a Vista dvd. I did a clean install because the upgrade feature didn't work for some reason. Do you mean inserting the vista dvd? Well, if I do that, I don't get a repair option... What is SFC? And what files are corrupted?? |

| Your IT service simply hasn't added the CRL's to the authorised list (they will have added the XP ones). The reason you can't activate is because your network uses basic authentication. Just give them these links and ask them to add them so that people on campus can activate Vista: http://crl.microsoft.com/pki/crl/pro...tAuthority.crl http://crl.microsoft.com/pki/crl/pro...unications.crl http://www.microsoft.com/pki/crl/pro...unications.crl http://crl.microsoft.com/pki/crl/pro...cureServer.crl http://www.microsoft.com/pki/crl/pro...cureServer.crl If activation is your only issue I see no point in repair or reinstalling as you will still have the issue. crabby Last edited by crabby : 05-08-2007 at 08:45 AM. |

| first I think Crabby is correct on the solution.. I do recommend you follow his suggestion. 2nd. Quote:
2.) SFC is built in use ORB -> cmd (run as admin) -> SFC /? then read about it. SFC is System File Checker - It has been in Windows for a long time, and requires the Install DVD. 2a.) SFC will tell you if you have any Corrupt Files and Repair them.. 3.) Im not sure about all Manufactures but ACER sent to me Recovery Disks but I also have a REAL DVD of Vista...so I can REPAIR instead of RECOVERY.. or Recovery which ever I want...
