Ok... right.. lol.. i stuck the side cover on and screwed it in.. at the time i had mucis playing and just as i put the last screw in... thew music started to stutter and got the same problem again...

So i unpluged all me cables and cleaned it all up so all the wires were tidy and not poking out in all directions! and stuck the cover back on and booted into windows... TaDa! all was fine. So to test i took the cover off again... windows still fine.. put it back on again.. hmmmm stutering back again.... WTF?! lol... ive managed to get the cover on with out windows messing me about but how having the side cover on messes up windows i dont know!

Theres no short.. the cover is not contacting any cards or wires inside the pc.. really confused with this one! lol oh well... as my bro said.... **** Happens..

felix8406 will become famous soon enough

I still think that something (most probable a PCI card) shifts when you install the cover.

The case could be warping (bending) as you install the cover. Are all the cards screwed in place, and not just inserted. Is the motheboard tight to the case with all the grounding screws in place and tight. Can you monitor signal strength as you install and remove the cover (Which really should not be done withe the sys on) Did you clean all card contacts with a rubber eraser, blow any dust out of the slots with a can of air?

You're correct there is no short, and if there had been, you would not have a computer, as a short destroys, but you have a (leak to ground) someplace as this will drain off signal strength, as well as change voltage. Do you have a volt meter (DC) that can check the power supply output (and I don't mean one of those plug in idiot light testers)

Try http://www.pcpitstop.com/ they have a driver scan http://www.pcpitstop.com/driverscan.asp that might help, also if they are out of date, the software links you to the DL. Service is free but you have to join, and pay for DL's I believe. I've not used it in sometime.
