I may be the culprit

Recommendations for AV /Spyware

Though I recommended against the 360 because of lack of right click scan. This may be included later according to some postings I read on another forum.

I have been devoted to Norton anti virus since Windows 95 but Vista opened up a few alternatives for me to try through the free trial offers included in the Security Control Panel.
Well, I tried Kaspersky and can tell you I'm not looking back. It is much better IMHO than any other anti virus I've tried including the free ones. Nice and transparent, is not a resource hog, and gets the job done nicely. The only down point is it is a little pricey, but sometimes you really do get what you pay for. And in case you're wondering, no I do not work for Kaspersky.

Symantec Corp. Edition 10.2.0.224 and Nero Enhanced 7 Suite but only install what you really need to keep it form being so bloated and it runs fine.

I am using Avast on one machine and AVG on another. I think that they both work fine.

Never really liked Norton but I recently upgraded my friend's PC to Vista Ultimate and had to upgrade (free) Norton. I must say that I kind of like the app. I think that it was Norton Internet Security 2007.

She had SystemWorks too but there is no update for that one.

Oh yeah,

CD burning!!

I mostly use Nero 7. It's dependable but I think that it is a little slow and updates take soooo long. But like I said, it works well

Recently, I have been trying Roxio Easy Media Creator 9. It is supposed to be "fully" compatible with Vista but there is one bug. You can't run DreamScene on your PC if you have Roxio EMC9. Those those who don't have Vista Ultimate (or don't use DreamScene on their desktop) it's no problem. Really though, this is a nice CD/DVD burning suite.

I use Power2Go 5.5 for burning. I like it a great deal. Avast on 32-bit drive, and Nod32 on 64-bit drive. Both good as far as I can tell.

I recently switched to Vista Ultimate. I have used Avast! for several years in XP and for about a month in Vista too. It is one of the best and free, to boot! After finding several adware and spyware items in my old XP installation (which means that Windows Defender is not that great!), I did some research and decided to go for a full suite in my new Vista installation. I chose Norton 360. I stopped using Symantec products years ago because they were bloated, badly designed software. However, I have to say that I'm impressed with 360. The only negative aspects I can think of are: 1) the internet backup, slow as molasses (it's been going on for about half an hour backing up 1GB of data and it's still at 20%); however, it is not that important because I have my own HD backup; 2) the browser phishing toolbar (big and ugly, but can be hidden). The important components of the suite (antivirus, antispam, firewall) are top of the heap in ease of use and they are as unobstrusive as the reviewers say. I recommend it highly!
