Yes, on The Welcome Back and Thanks...
A Special Thanks to Wiggles, Ant and Crabby.

I will try to much more conservative in the future.

I do not use the DISK DEFRAG in Vista. grossy inadequate. (IMHO)..I do not use Perfect Disk - WAY to many problems during Beta Testing, and many still have too many problems...with Perfect Disk...

I use Auslogisic Disk Defrag - SUPER FAST and I have never HAD a PROBLEM.
even on C:\... my boot drive. Yes, I reboot after using.. 1m 30s avg time
I use the REG CLEANER in Vista Manager and also "REG VAC" (written by a MS MVP) NEVER a PROBLEM with Either one...
I use Auslogisic Registry Defrag... which current is rated as 1 of the BEST..

using the above mentioned 4 programs... I have found that I can increase my BOOT from COLD speed by 5s to 15s...keeping my avg time below 1m - my shutdown is lowered avg 15s to 25s. which as stated above REBOOT avg time is 1m 30s.. or less...

Other than a lack of GUI, Vista defrag is an excellent application. It takes a while to defrag the HD the first time it's run, but after that it runs on scheduled and out of site on the background.

I would point out that defragmenting is a relic! Newer file systems do not require it. So it really was a shame that Microsoft didnt implement their new WinFS! I agree that AUSlogic is exceptionally fast and easy to use. And if it does the same job as the windows defragmenter then it's simply great! However, I can't find out how either really work and so can;t put either as better (as the reason the windows defrag takes longer may be that it is more thorough)

De fragmenting the HD is still needed and make a difference in performance. I just don't think that there's really a need to purchase a defrag program as Vista built-in defarg application does a decent job. Hopefully in the feature, defrag operation will be controlled internally by the HD.

Hi All

New here. Defrag makes a big difference on performance especially if it is
set up in Raid 0 mode like mine. Perfect Disk I like because it does an offline defrag of the paging files to. performance is awsum with it.
