CD/DVD Application Software recommendation

Does anyone have any experience/preference to CD/DVD applications for Vista. It's time to purchase and I would like to get the right package the first time.

My DVD hardware is:
LITE-ON DVDRW HL-20A1H
LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1693S

The HL-20A1H is LiteScribe and Double Layer capable but isn't as reliable as the SOHW-1693S.

I had nero installed, but deleted it because they wanted me to purchase a new copy for Vista - even though I owned it before the upgrade.

My preference in the past has been the Roxio product line, but I'm not sure if they "properly" support Vista.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

I just bought Power DVD Deluxe. You get ripped a little. I got a free download of the Power2Go4 burner, etc. , but I had to upgrade for $29.95 to Power2Go5.5 to get Vista compatiblility. So far, I really like Power DVD, but I have nothing to compare it too. As I recall, I had trouble playing DVD Videos on WMC and could not play DVD Audios. Now, I have no trouble with either. Power DVD Ultra will play Blu-Ray and HD DVD. Go to Cyberlink: http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/products/main_1_ENU.html. I haven't tried the burner yet. I think it does ISO's, but am not yet positive.

Edit: Yes, I am burning an ISO right now.

I really like Nero 6 and wish it would work with Vista. I really don't care for Nero 7.

I run WinDVD 8 Platinum under Vista. I had problems with it under XP and it runs a lot better under Vista.

Having said that ... it's not exactly cheap, though.

Win DVD 8

My selection made easy. I still hadn't gotten around to addressing this selection - BUT this morning I had a need to burn a DVD from an ISO. The suggested download that I tried wouldn't burn the DVD so I decided to try and install my Roxio 8.2XE that came with my DVD device. Much to my surprise, it installed without complaining about support for Vista. AND when I started the software, it popped up with a link for a free upgrade to 9.05 which I downloaded and installed.

The installation was a little difficult in that shutting down One Care virus and firewall, it insisted on stopping it altogether. But other than that the upgrade went fine.

AND unlike Nero (which wanted me to pay for the upgrade just installed), the upgrade was in fact FREE.

Sorry that you got stuck and was not able to UPGRADE FREE your copy of NERO..which copy version was it...reason I ask, is I was able to upgrade FREE from NERO 6650 to 7751 via the link I posted...using the exact same SN.
then Nero offered FREE update from 7751 to 7850. Now I am using the ULTRA Edition.. that might be the difference.

Info for some that do not know... When installing NERO there is a DEFAULT SN which shows in the TRIAL Version..If the trial version is the EXACT SAME Version you own...and if the upgrade is approved... simply insert the OLD SN when the TRIAL SN shows.... If this version is entitled to the newer version and your SN is accepted... you have a TOTALLY UPGRADED version...and sort of like Windows...you might have to keep the old version to install from and upgrade to the newer version...some times after you have once upgraded and it is approved, you can then Clean install with the OLD SN and have the NEW version 100% approved...(This is not a hack or crack it simply is how you have to Upgrade with NERO when using a TRIAL version.)
Some times I clean install with the NEW Trial version, replace the trial SN with my Pre-owned SN via the registery. and reboot, then check to see if you old SN is approved - if yes you have a 100% legal clean install.) Now if you SN is hacked/cracked/blacklisted/passed around the internet you will have a NON-Functioning clean install.

Been using Nero since the Windows 95 days...Love it..Recommend it..
Nero 7 is much faster than Nero 6..(IMHO)

Snuffy:

I was trying to upgrade from "Nero 7 essentials" which came with one of the DVD writers in my system. The actual upgrade took place. However when I started the application it presented me with a 30 expiration and a link to purchase the upgrade.

The roxio product was Creater 8.2XE which came with the other DVD writer in my system. The version 8.2 would actually work in Vista where the nero 7 would not function properly.

Please note that I do not express a preference to either. Only reporting my experience.

I just came to a problem that I didn't even realize I had, no DVD playback in WMP11 need a plug in because I have the Business version of Vista. I have Nero 7 ultra but I put in the slimed down version and did not install Nero Show Time and I think if I did I would not be in this problem and WMP11 would use the Nero Plug-in to play DVD's but I am not sure, so I am debating on what to do, a simple solution is to download the Cineplayer DVD Decoder for Windows Vista v1.0 from Roxaio. Years ago with XP I would have PowerDVD, WMP9, ATI Media center and over the years I have tried to limit the system to just one Media player and this is the problem I am in today, any suggestions.
