Microsoft enabled HTA (HTML Applications) a while ago, but no one seem ever developed any killer apps for it. I think one of the concerns was about the security because user had to copy the HTA files from an un-trusted site, put on own computer, and then allow the HTA to access the hard drive. Too scary just to think about it. Now with Vista's peer channel, would it revive HTA? One nice thing about HTA is the common HTML interface. Web developers can do HTA just like doing the HTML. I'd like to hear more about the peer channel. But I haven't been able to find much online documents regarding how to develop the peer apps, particular for Web developers who are not Windows programmers. Any insight? |

| I have a feeling HTA won't be revived, simply because once forgotten, forever gone. It's a good question though. I'll see if I can dig up some info on it.

| PC World reported today that Kazaa P-to-P (peer-to-peer) file-trading software and SpyAxe, a supposed spyware-blocking application, are among the first four programs identified as "badware" by the fledgling StopBadware.org group. Given all the bad publicities associated with P2P products, I'm wondering if that would give Vista's Peer Channel a bad impression, too. Any thoughts? |

| I think it will probably fly under the radar, and not be noticed much. It also depends upon how MS decides to market it. P2P has legit uses, so if those uses are emphasized, rather than the notorious ones of the past, then it may be fine. But honestly, I don't really think it will cause much of a ripple either way.

READ next time, basically, it's a program made completely from HTML...it would be incredibly easy to hide little scripts inside...malicious and benevolent alike....this is bad. |
