We have Live Communication Sever 05 running at my company and all of our users are currently using Windows Messenger 5.1 setup with their SIP account on that server to use as an internal messenger app.
after playing around i found that microsoft is no longer supporting windows messenger as of Vista.
SO...i have to find an alternate way to get everyone setup (once we push vista out) so that they can setup their SIP account. I know trillian has a plugin for it but i believe you need the pro version to get that to work and so far when i tried it it crashes trillian whenever i try to connect. so that options out for now.
can anyone help????

Windows Live Messenger is being maintained. There is a Beta 8.1 currently available to Connect members.

can you configure to use a SIP account in live messenger? i actually tried that but couldnt find anywhere to do that

Live messenger doesnt support SIP It's definately something they should add!!! As for the moment I can't think of a stable SIP messenger... you seem to be testing early for corporate stuff... maybe the crash issue will be resolved with the RTM?

ya i agree but we're a smaller company and they like to stay on the cutting edge i guess (i'm newer here). SO i've been told we're going to start rolling it out to some people in january when its released......i agree not the best idea but i want to be ready.
well i did see that trillian is releasing a new version (4.0) sometime in the fall so maybe thats an option. however again, you have to upgrade to the pro version for the SIP plugin to work which probably isnt an option when we'd have to buy 100 licenses. thanks anyways

thats true. i'm working with someone in the trillian forums now to try to get it to work with trillian. keeps crashing when you try to connect to anything with the SIP plugin. maybe the new version will work
