I have used Regsupreme fo ryears on 3 XP systems and have always used the deep scan and have always just clicked fix the 320 or what every errors without a glitch. Now we hav e Vista am not sure what to run just installed Regsupreme 1.4 and it found 340 errors on a low scan and I always look over the scan but I am not sure of this being used in Vista. The program has a backup which works great beacsue I have used it once in XP when it kept deleting the Media detect in Creative sound card but it was fixe dwith a driver download from Creative. I have not used the ones you guys are talking about but I am goingt o check them out. I also have looked into CCleaner but am not sure of that one either sometimes it better to leave well enought alone with the registry. Years ago with Windows 98 you could get into big trouble but since XP everything been pretty stable.

Reg cleaners

Yikes, when Vista or any program/OS uncompress it leaves tracks in the registery. It is also known that every uninstaller uses MSI to uninstall with,
and that leaves TRASH all over the registery..many 3d party programs have uninstallers which actually remove the reg entries...a good example is when you use a Trial program it is only good for that trial period due to entries left in the registery...I actually use
1. FreeWinRegCleaner
2. Reg Cure
3. Vista Manager it has a reg cleaner also...
Windows still has a long ways to go not to be BLOATED and full of trash.

I did not prepare ahead of time for these conflicts and found that an uninstall and reinstall was required. The conflicts were hangs and black screen crashes. My decision was to run one only because I had no way to document the problems that I had created. The problems created by installed Soundblaster and "media players" in the 1990's is an example. I would suggest documenting each installation not both before you run them installed and active because you may run into "corrupted" files. Be prepared to use a restore point before you begin. If you run into problems try asking for help on the IObit forum. They have been responsive and helpful.

Right, I always create restore points, and I did not actually correct errors with both cleaners. I simply compared what Registry Mechanic showed both before and after running AWC. I made no attempt to document the specific errors before and after. I wasn't that interested in the comparison. And, yep, I am used to doing repair installs, but never for any serious reason. I am sorry that you had problems using multiple cleaners. Do you know what a "Useless History Event" is? Or, was it a "Useless Event History?" The latter sounds better.

Pretty interesting felix. 30k plus problems. I thought that my "problems" were high when they got to 400 or so. I wonder what's so different about our systems.

Could it be "Vista Bloat" ?

dazzlin has posted a thread, Vista SPR (System Performance Rating), which if used before and after changes made by for example AWC (Advanced Windows Care) would provide an opportunity to evaluate SPR, Vista Bloat, and AWC. I do not have Vista installed so until I do I will rely on your experience and advice.

I don't think that the SPR will pick up the difference, if any, created by using a registry cleaner and, thus, would say nothing about Vista bloat. I think that a program like PassMark's Performance Test would be more likely to pick up a significant difference.

... Spr ...

.
We all have experience with "cleaners". What we do not have is performance records.
.
SPR (System Performance Rating):
Can we use this as a reference, and if so what are some reasonable guidelines that we could all use for comparison?

Thank you for your comment.
You stated that "you think".
I am asking for "test results using SPR".
.
If you should use another test method I would
consider the same if I was going to use the
results for comparison.

You are very welcome. I looked at my SPR score before and after using AWC; it did not change. And, I have done many different types of before and after tests. My conclusion is that if one has a decently performing system, then it is virtually impossible to change one's SPR score without changing a significant piece of hardware.
