Hi Guys and Gals: I am looking for software recommendations of any kind for my 64-bit installation. I have so many installations that its hard to keep everything installed at once or otherwise installed consistently with the EULA's. I am trying to emphasize some very good free software so that eventually I can make transitions from the costly varieties. Convenience is the issue more than cost. crabby, I know that you have DVD player (free) and ISO burning software (free), but I can't remember what they are. Do you know any free that will play DVD Audios? Please let me know if anyone's recommendations for free software have adds, or other undesirable features, that must be suffered. Also, has anyone tried Photoshop on 64-bit? I have no problem with Photoshop on my laptop, but have a few PS-problems on my 32-bit desktop installations. Is there any basic free Photo editing software? I think there is but I can't remember its name and have no idea how it would work with Vista in general. I don't need to do much in the way of photo editing on my 64-bit drive, but I would like to be able to resize images accurately and to add text to images. Is there any 64-bit software that anyone recommends--costly or otherwise?

| Most software is still 32 bit... the major issues come from drivers as you know. To show how little 32 bit vs 64 bit matters... The 64 bit version of Vista Premium still uses 32 bit media player and media center. crabby |

| I found a site with links to a great deal of 64-bit software: http://www.start64.com/index.php. I found PaintDotNet (free)--a very nice simple photo and image editor--Vista 64-bit compatible and all. I also picked up Minefield. I like it fine, except so far I have not been able to zoom on the web with Ctrl-+. A also will be trying Startup Monitor (free). This program monitors programs that register newly for start up at system start up. Could be a very useful anti-bot program. I don't thing it would slow things down since apparently in only does anything except when starting up. Also, I have been reading about Vista 64-bit security versus that of 32-bit. I am getting more and more impressed with Vista 64-bit. Read here: http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase...sta_ff_x64.asp. Edit: I dumped Minefield--too slow.

| When I was beta testing Windows XP Pro x64, I found this site that was helpful for both software and drivers that would work with x64 XP. When Vista was in the development stages, the forum somewhat shifted focus over to x64 Vista. For some reason I can't login to the site but here is the address: www.planetamd64.com I am sure that this is an active forum. They have tons of members. I do know that when I couldn't get drivers or software to work with 64, they had the solution and lists of compatible programs.. could someone try to open this site and tell me if it opens, occasionally my internet does weird stuff on certain sites. |
