For a basic comparison I prefer WMP as it plays more than Itunes... I hate how Itunes makes you convert your music etc.

As a media player i prefer WMP compared to Quicktime and iTunes. WMP has lots more file support, Plus it looks realy nicer with Aero Glass.

I prefer WMP for a couple reasons. I do like the look of it better, it has more file options, not to mention it doesn't lock every time I try to play a video.

Vista and quicktime have not agreed from the beginning, and it seems that the only thing ITunes is good for in Vista, is transferring stuff to the IPOD.
I have a Zune, so there is no need for ITunes.

I agree, and with Ant above. However, I typically record my music via iTunes on my iBook for use with my iPod. I did have a Vista/iTunes problem on my desktop once so I quit using iTunes with Vista.

The only problem I have is its lack of codecs... VLC plays everything and is only 14MB so i have never understood where all the gunk comes from in WMP

VLC is a 'Universal Media Player'... Here is a link to their website: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

It plays everything from WMA to MP3 to AVI to MOV to MPG and so on! And it is completely free!
