| Some programs don't respond well when the system is restored, Live OneCare being on of them. In those cases, you may have to uninstall and re-install the application. Also, try to make sure that every program you download and install is Vista compatible, especially malware and virus removal applications. For example, as mentioned on another thread by Snuffy, Ad-Aware is not fully Vista compatible. It'll install and work, but may also remove needed Vista files that may appear to Ad-Aware to be malware. |

| Ok, many thanks guys. I think I am going to order the new parts today and before installing them or their drivers/software I will definitely create a system restore point. I'm buying from NewEgg, so hopefully I will have my stuff by the end of the week, seeing as how their shipping is pretty quick. I'm stoked! Again, thanks for all the help! This is a wonderful forum. |

| You can check almost all devices that are Vista compatible by using the HCL. and also the drivers. Not every thing is logo-ed but the majority of items which have been certified for Vista are MARKED. I have not found (currently) any device I have installed with the logo that has not installed and worked correctly after install... some older items that others use or want to use... is a different story. I do check the HCL prior to installing... saves me time and the customer money... it is their option, buy approved or pay me $$$$ to make it work. (but I am not responsible if they have problems).

One thing you may want to do is Backup the instalation with something like acronis true image, this retains your registration details and were restore can fail once you have backed up and tested a backup its there forever you can even burn to dvd but you do need a second hard drive to do this it is really worth it, you will save many frustrating hrs of reinstalling and re-registering also you may want to split your main hard drive in two and run 64bit on one half and 32bit on the other half that way if there is any thing that does not like 64bit you can run it in 32bit I have been doing this for a couple of months now and so far I have not needed to run 32bit but I do not play games on my machine acronis true image 10.0 works with vista |
