Post Amount RAM exactly used on your Vista

I was curious to know how much memory Vista is taking up on your computer.
Lets say just when you start up your computer and it's all done loading w/1 explorer opened (since you have this up)

Check by pressing (Ctrl-Alt-Del) at the same time, and select 'Start Task Manager'. Check the 'Performance' tab.

I have 837MB used. errr..man it uses a lot. Well I do have 2GB but still... It just forces you to upgrade your older computers. My P4 3.06Ghz PC has 512MB RAM. I think I'm gonna leave XP on there.

Right, but all I can say is time marches on. With every change, there are pluses and minues for some if not all. Look at the atomic bomb. Check my RAM use at idle below; I have 4 GB.

I think overall, Vista handles RAM much better than XP. It appears to be using a lot of memory resources, and it does, but the main reason for that is the Superfetch feature. Its design to learn your computing patterns and load those applications you are using to memory for faster retrieval. For example, if when you log on to the PC at 8:00 a.m. you use word to type documents regularly, as time goes buy Vista will know that this is your pattern and loads up the word application as you start the PC around 8:00 a.m. This process continues throughout the day as you use your PC applications as Vista keeps loading and off-loading applications as needed to help you be more efficient.

That's a good point felix. I first saw this point first in relation to OS X. All is well even when available RAM gets pretty small.

My Laptop only has 512MB and with both Firefox and IE7 open, it sows 85% of memory consumption, while my desktop shows 27% of 1GB of ram. Your programs are supposed to become more memory efficient as time goes buy, as long as one doesn't reinstall Vista.

My laptop is about 40% at idle with Firefox running (2 GB). My desktop runs about 20% at idle, as I recall (4 GB).
