new is usually good but Bios updates can be risky, I will leave this one for you to decide

Agree with ProCookie, if you're satisfy with what you have, leave it alone. On the other, I must confess, whether I get a new motherboard or are using my old PC, I always upgrade to the latest BIOS and drivers...so far I have never experience any issues. If you decide to do it, make sure to follow all instructions.

The days of having to do it on a floppy are pretty much over. They make it as easy as any other update. I update mine when there is a new one and never have any problems.

BIOS update has nothing to do with your HD data. Like I mentioned before though, make sure to follow all included instructions.

Read the instructions CAREULLY. it is very easy to do, and for the most part
upgraded BIOS are for the best...

Josh, you can always go to the Web site of Compaq, and research on what the New Bios does... Then you should be the one who determines Yes or No.
The last 7 Bios updates for my system included like
1. Performance enhancements for my on board Gigabit lan driver. (2d improvement)
2. Performance enhancements for Vista
3. SATA II enhancements - RAID and AHCI changes (SATA RAID Driver ver:2.5.1540.43) 3d time to improve.
4. Added several tweaks to how I can adjust default settings.
4a. incremental changes by .1 volts
4b. ways that system reads Sata 1 & Sata II & IDE HD's
5. Added a new key to allow me to switch Boot Sequence..
like I switch from HDD-0 = Vista HDD-1 P1 = XP SP3. (F-11)
6. Performance enhancements for onboard AC97 sound.
7. Added Cool-n-quite v1.8 and up..
8. HPET Filters added v 2.0 and up

Sorry ppl disregraded all advice (sorry lol) did it anyway and worked fine! HP consider this a normal everyday update follow advice on the prog dont unplug etc and worked and I think its reduced the amount of ram im using cool!
