Here is an idea a sad one but still one I and I alone am thinking ahead to (I know this will have happend already with some older users of the internet) the fact that within about 80 or so years people are going to start passing away while still having alot of data on the net (such as are Vistababble accounts and posts for example or are WLM stuff). Now not only this but unlike real life how will other internet users know if their online friends have died offline will the internet world just go on assume their longtime friends have just gone away?

And know one say in 80 years or whatever we wont be using the internet because I will be.

Its "Death over internet=??? The new EM=C2" because the internet will be a time bomb of dead peoples infomation also "=???" because we will not know if someone has died.

I know its a grim subject but I feel its one that must be tackled now. My main point is how will we know.

I do understand what your asking. When I ran my "business" I had a very long list of customers, (many were Friends also). Most of the time when someone past away, I found out by - other friends told me, there business associtates told me, there relation told me. The internet does pose a problem that way. My wife knows I "FORUM" which ones - No. my family does not know and for the most part do not care. (strange but when ask they shrug and say Who Cares?).
Forums are like school mates, some you stick with some you forget due to (changes), Admin problems, customer problems, U tired of or simply the people who do the answering constantly argue amoung themselves...
Admins die and the Forum dues are not paid, people change... forget to visit
the list could go on forever... but when the DUEs/fees are not paid the info is SCRAPPED. FORMATTED away... tis a shame but that is what happens. You will probably never know why or when, it just happens.

Intresting ideas snuffy, out of intrest was your business based online or not. My point is unlike offline (where you find out about death in the ways you said above) online you would not for instance if I got killed tomorro you all would nv know would you? You would assume another 1 million ideas before that such as left the fourm, internet down, moved home or anything but not death. And I would think its sad if your online friends whom you may know as well as real mates offline would not know you where dead therefore they remain in limbo and your memory in their eyes does too weather that is a good thing is up to you. And with what you where saying about family would to true to an extent but would your family in this context,

you write a daily blog on site B your family do not know (the blog remains up for a year or so because the site has no policy on deleting accounts), then one of your family or friends comes across it how would they feel? Knowing your last day on earth was online in blog form?

Some could say that it is a form of online imortallity others may find it destressing.

As for the schools mates thing yer I agree but im not just talking about forums what about things like youtube??? where people could pass negtive comment about the person or video after the person has died?

And some things may take years or decades or even longer to be formatted. Weather things should be formatted at all is an other issue.

Your last line about nv knowing when is right that is the problem... in life generally you would know if someone important has died. Mabye not an old school friend, but if I died tomorro would you rather live in Bliss Or Know? that is the question.

Ant sorry if it bothers you but its important mate, and im not saying I would want to know if you stopped posting im saying IF you died your mates on the net would not know and live in a kind of limbo. Weather that is right or wrong is a matter of personal taste.

Hang on please don't misuderstand the meaning of the thread, the idea behind it is to chat about the technological challages of it not the darker side of it so please don't think im some doom and gloom, morbid feels spreader. Not trying to freak or upset anyone just wondered from a tech point of view what others felt.
