Tip from Microsft Newsletter titled Exploring Vista

Create an XPS document

XPS documents are a new archiving format perfect for preserving content and securely sharing information, no matter which program you're using. To create an XPS document:

1. Open any document in virtually any application and click Print.
2. In the Printer Selection menu, choose Microsoft XPS Document Writer and save the file.
3. Double-click the file to open it in the XPS Viewer, which Windows Internet Explorer 7 hosts.

The XPS document is a pixel-perfect rendition of the original source material.

Well don't feel guilty, I haven't done much either. My daughter is getting married this weekend so it'll be next week before I do anything.

From Windows Live Team email:

Ready to tidy up your inbox? With the new custom filter feature in Hotmail, you can organize your incoming e-mail by setting up one or more e-mail filters to automatically put messages into your specified folders as they arrive. You can filter by all sorts of ways, including from address, from name, by subject, to or cc line, by topic, text, and more. Custom filters let you control what appears in your inbox, or goes directly to any of your folders, keeping you in-the-know and in charge!

If you use the Command Prompt in elevated mode frequently (Run as administrator), then just run it under administrator privilege permanently.

Star > All Programs > Accessories > Right click Command Prompt and select Properties > Under the Shortcut tab click Advanced > Click 'Run as administrator' to activate.

If you would rather not run it in elevated mode permanently, just simply create a shortcut and run the shortcut with elevated privilege: Right click shortcut and select Properties > Under the Shortcut tab click Advanced > Click 'Run as administrator' to activate.

Did you know you can open command prompt from any folder? Simply press the Shift key, right-click the folder and click the "Open command Window Here" from the pop-up menu.

This tip is from Microsoft Exploring Windows Newsletter: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...p/default.mspx

Get pictures from your digital camera to your PC
The simplest way to do this is to:

1. Start by connecting the camera to your PC with the camera's USB cable.
2. Turn on the camera.
3. In the dialog box that appears, click Import using Windows to copy pictures to your computer.
4. If you want, type a descriptive tag for your pictures in the Tag these pictures box so you can find them more easily later.

A friend of mine wanted to know how to set up outlook so it could be launched automatically during startup. I thought it’ll be a good tip to share here at this forum. There are applications that have the option to start automatically when the PC is turn on. This option can be set during the installation or afterwards through the application’s interface. However, my prefer method is to use the Startup folder located in the Start menu.
Click Start > Right click the Startup folder > Click Open > Drag the application or file you want open at startup to the folder

Tip: Instead of dragging the application or file, I suggest you drag a shortcut instead. Simply drag the application and file to the Startup folder using the mouse right button, release the button and select ‘Create shortcuts here’ form the popup menu.

Note: The Startup folder is not limited to applications, as it can also launch files as well. For example, after I setup my daughter’s computer, I wanted her to know about certain Vista’s features, as well as steps I felt she needed to take to keep her laptop running smoothly. So I simply created a word document with all the information and then placed in the startup folder. When she turned on the laptop, the word document I created popped up automatically. I knew she had read the document because parts of the instructions were for her to send me an email explaining to me what she had read.
