So im wondering do any of you guys know wether my new card is an improvement from my old one and am i getting a good deal for £45 (inc VAT Delivery)

Im asking because im not familiar with how graphics card power is measured and if Nvida is better than ATI ect.

Thanks in advance!

I have read through all the posts to this point. My NVIDIA 7600 worked fine with Vista. My Radeon X1650 XT is a vastly superior card--and not very expensive if you can find one now. I would go to the ATI site and run their online Vista Compatibility/Card recommendation software. I had switched to the from my NVIDIA to the Radeon X1650 Pro--which was better than the NVIDA. The advisor recommended the X1650XT. Switching from the Pro to the XT made a huge increase in my system performance. So, the bottom line is that I think the online software would be very useful in telling you which ATI card would be the best for you. To compare the recommendation with NVIDIA cards, there are tons on online comparative performance tests. Just search on "cardname test," for example.

Mleh... it's a card.

If you are going to buy something atleast research it properly first

Go here: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/graphics/charts.html

Choose your current chipset and start comparing it with others in the list. The 1050 chipset is an Nvidia series 6 equivalent so lacks the features some new games require.

In my view there is no point in an upgrade if it does upgrade your system

Angry NVidia 7300 GS

That is my NEW Video Card... (Not recommended)
reason: it barely fast enough for Vista ... WEI it is only 2.6 to 2.7 (slow)
I have had to repair the cooling FAN 2 times .. less than 3 months old..
it is very noisy, and (IMHO) not worth the $80 to $123.00 USA price..
it might just be the "made in china" sticker..

Ant: Since you seem to be set on an NVIDIA card you should do a specs comparison between the 7300GS and the 7600GT. I've seen the 7600GT advertised on the internet for $89 American Dollars - with the exchange rate it should be in your budget and it's numbers are:

Memory interface: 128 bit vs 64 bit
Memory bandwith: 22.4GB per second vs 6.5GB per second
Fill Rate: 6.7Billion pixels per second vs 2.2Billion pixels per second
Vertices: 700Million per second vs 413Million per second

Vista numbers for my 7600GT are Graphics: 5.9 and 3D business and gaming graphics 5.5

Couldn't hurt to do a little more shopping!!

I get a score of 3.6 with my Radeon x600. So does that mean i could actully get a card with a lower score....i was expecting atleast a minor improvement...i dont get how the newer cards can be worse than the one i have now????

RRRRAAAAAAGGGGGHHHH!!!!! Did you even LOOK at the VGA chart? Your 'upgrade' is almost exactly the same!!! Do I need to come over there and give you a slap?

Both ATI and Nvidia work on 'series' based cards. Each new series has new features, like shaders etc which will increase performance in games by allowing activation of these features (which overclocking will never achieve). HOWEVER, just because a card has a new chipset does NOT mean it will perform better when these new features arent required. For this you look at GPU and RAM speeds etc. Now you are going to retort with the fact that the 7300 HAS more GPU and RAM speed, but the difference is negligible in comparison to the market.

If the newer card is shown as lower in the performance index it is wrong... but I cant condone the waste of £40 when spending twice as much gives you over three times the performance
