Ant, please check out my post above. I have found performance results to be somewhat difficult to predict, but the online software I mentioned was right on, and the tests I mentioned also should give huge insights.

It's either £2 on a cable and wait til you have money for a proper card... or spend £40 on an almost like for like swap.

i would just get the new cable.. and save £150 and get somthing like a 7900GT or save £250 and get one of ATI's soon to be out DX10 cards

right its finally hit home that i need to spend a bit more cash, so if a wait till Friday i will have another £90 to spend plus the £40 from Wednesday....giving me £130 now normally i wouldn't pay this for a PC component but its looking like I'm gonna have to make an exception
