Graphics Card Comparison

My graphics card is on its way it keeps overheating and cutting of the signal to my monitor, so i decided its time to buy a new one but im a bit strapped for cash at the moment so i have a limited budget.

Now i want to make sure i buy the right card and after looking on the web i have found a great deal on this card:

GeForce 7300GS 256MB

now my old card is a:

ATI RADEON X600 256MB

So im wondering do any of you guys know wether my new card is an improvement from my old one and am i getting a good deal for £45 (inc VAT Delivery)

Im asking because im not familiar with how graphics card power is measured and if Nvida is better than ATI ect.

Thanks in advance!

Ant

felix8406 will become famous soon enough

You'll do well. The only issue I see is driver compatibility as it appears that nVidia drivers are not Vista user friendly. There has been many reported issues with Vista and nVidia drivers. I like ATI and that's what I've always used. I have never had any issues with drivers, whether if it's Win XP or Vista.

That does sound like a good deal, I think I paid more for the 6800XT I bought a couple of months ago. But I have to agree with felix. Nvidia drivers are far from maturity and the control panel is very basic at the moment. I can't even tell the temp of my GPU right now.

Except for the first card which was a Voodoo, I have always had Nvidia cards because they have been very good in the past. Like I said in another thread when XP came out, Nvidia had quality drivers almost right off at the start. But they have sure dropped the ball as far as Vista is concerned.

If you don't mind waiting with the rest of us suffering Nvidia users, go ahead and get it.

Can i just say that the 7300GS is an ok card. i have it BUT if you plan on playing anything more taxing that counter strike then your gonna have problems!! if its just for general pc usage then you should be fine.. the problem is this card only has a 64bit memory interface witch slows it down a lot. If you can try and get a card with 128bit memory interface.

Is your card AGP or PCI-E??

If its agp then id rcommend this from ATI:

http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/63693/rb/26560207423

If its PCI-E your after then theres this from nvidia:

http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/110048

and from ATI

http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...e=ZXh0ZW5kZWQ=

this ati card has 128bit memory interface for £50 total including delivery so £5 over your £45 budget

Thanks for the info guys i have been kind of put of Nvidia now, but can i just ask is it just the control panel that doesn't work or does the actually driver mess up too? because i don't tweak graphics anyway and I'm not really a great PC gamer i just want something that will run aero and hopefully if I'm lucky the upcoming PC title Halo 2 but I'm not fussed.

Sean i thanks for the info, im looking into the 2 PCI-E ones you recommended i would prefibly like to go for the the Nvida but after hearing about the drivers im not sure.

My personal opinion of your card upgrade would be that it is worhth the money... but wont do much to your performance

I wouldn't by a new card unless you have to... save up for a dx10 one

It's not just Vista that they have dropped the ball with. The last couple of releases for Linux had some issues also.
