Z you do recall that the only way to upgrade to Vista x64 is CLEAN INSTALL..

Quote:
When you insert a Windows Vista 64-bit DVD within a 32-bit operating system, and setup is launched, the operation is unsuccessful, and you receive the following error message:
Setup cannot run on this version of the Operating System. To install Windows please try booting from the install media.
When you try to upgrade a computer’s operating system from the 64-bit version of Windows XP Professional (x64) to a 64-bit version of Windows Vista, the upgrade is disabled.

Note If you have a 64-bit version of Windows Vista installed, you can upgrade to an allowed 64-bit version of Windows Vista. For example, you can upgrade Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate.

Edit: We're Back!!!

Hi Guys. When we come back from the trip to the new server, I like some personal insights concerning using my second Raptor with Vista Ultimate 64-bit. My Vista 32-bit install on my first Raptor was a piece of cake--ending in my triple boot. I can't remember if there is a Raptor driver problem in regard to installing Vista 64-bit.

Here is my plan--for when I get my new computer. I am going to leave my new XP Pro drive in place, take the second 250 GB out and install it on my wife's machine as a second drive for Vista (I hope), buy a second Raptor 150 GB (already done). On the second Raptor, I am going to start playing with 64-bit. I'll still have my 32-bit Raptor and a triple boot. And, I'll end up with at least 2 GB of 1066 MHz RAM. Yehhhaaa! I will need to figure out how to add my first Raptor with Vista 32-bit installed to my boot menu. I may need some help there. I have Easy BCD.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance.

Hi crab. Maybe you did not see what's up. Gateway accidentally sent me a computer with the wrong processor--an X6700. I paid for a QX6700 Core Duo 2 Quad Core. So, Gateway is sending me a new black box. Please see my last post above--where I as for some help--for when I get the new box.

Thanks Snuffy. I am downloading my TechNet 64-bit Vista for burning right now. Clean install, yes.

Thanks crabby. I will be trying to use my existing 32-bit Vista Raptor drive as is without reinstalling anything. I should be able to edit my boot menu to make this happen, right?? I have EasyBCD.

The installation of x64 Vista should be no hassle. And if you have the other drives connected during installation then the boot menu will auto update itself, making the 64 bit version default and adding the 32 bit version to the choices.
