Internal ReadyBoost

One thing I don't like about using a USB drive as ReadyBoost is that it's exposed and can get on the way or be knock off the port. I'm going to try a solution that may allow me to connect a USB drive and a bluetooth adapter inside my PC. I just ordered a USB 2.0 PCI card that has 6 USB ports, four external and two internal. Once I get it, I'm going to install my 8GB USB drive and bluetooth adapter on the two internal ports; out of sight, out of mind.

Will post here about the results.

Most mobo's today have extra slots to attach 4 external ports in the back, this places them out of reach..or you can attach to a dongle cable which will allow you to also keep from being knocked out of the port.. easy to apply sticky tape which allows removal and leaves NO GUNK on the case works GREAT.. the internal works well also, or many of the nice (toys) add upto 6 ports. I have seen (American Eagle, Sport Cars, Cats, Dogs, Hot plates, cold plates, dual flip hot/cold plates, ?????? and yes you quessed it also.)

Some monitors, like my Dell 1907FP, has some USB ports. Mine has two on the left side of the screen and two behind the screen next to the DVI cable plug. I have my USB Bluetooth plugged into one of the rear ones which is out of the way. However I went ahead and plugged my RB drive into a vacant USB port at the back of the computer. My reasoning is that the closer to the mobo, the faster it works

Interesting, and "clean," idea felix. But, like others, I'd rather have my flash drive (and BT) easy to access, etc. Do you think heat could be a problem under your idea?

Heat should not be a problem... most pc temps are about 30c in the case. i suppose if its going to be close to the north/south bridge chipset the cpu or graphics card heat could possibley be an issue.

Thanks Sean. Yes, the heat at my card is about 65c--as shown by my Catylast Control Center. Does this temp seem right.?

I did take heat into consideration; like Sean mentioned, I don't believe it will be an issue. However, just in case, I reactivated my desktop side cooling fan, which will be directing ambient air directly at the USB Drive and Bluetooth adapter. I had disconnected the fan because after many experiments, the system and CPU temp stayed about the same whether the fan was on or off. It's whisper quiet, so noise won't be an issue.

I received the PCI USB 2.0 card today, but not the 4GB USB drive. I did installed the card on my PC running Vista 64-bit and the installation went without a hitch. Vista recognized and installed the card driver and everything went well.

Like I mentioned in a previous post, the card has 6 USB ports, four external and two internal. I installed a 2GB USB drive in one of the internal ports and it works just fine as readyboost. I'll install my 4GB USB drive as soon as I get it.

I received and installed the 8GB enhanced USB drive, internally. At first, the maximum amount of space I could use for ReadyBoost was 3.90. I went to do some chores around the house, when I came back a few hours later and reopened the disk properties, the maximum allowable space went up to 7.8GB. Whether it'll make a huge difference, it's hard to tell, but I believe it'll help. However, one would think that if ReadyBoost is a memory boost, some aspect(s) of the Windows Experience Index score would change for the better, but that's not the case at all.

Cool felix--on all your new gadgets and installs. As has been your experience to date, I doubt very seriously if anyone ever will see any kind of change in the WPI or a component of this score from ReadyBoost.
