What contradiction? It is telling people who have a Live ID that they can log in to edit what content they are subscribed to receive?

If I've already got an ID, and I'm already Signed In (note below) why would I want to get another email message asking if I want to subscribe, to something I've already subscribed to made my choices and have an ID for?

Seems consistent with what I said. They could have found out how to register via some other source. Redundancy and left hand not knowing what the right is doing are prelevant features of many things these days. I say "whatever." If you hadn't received the email, you wouldn't be on their emailing list?

It comes down to the fact that they want you to know you can change what content you receive... you still have to LOG IN to do that, hence the 'already got a liveID' remark so that any public users who don't know they need to.

Remember cookies don't crossover from email to web page, so the web page doesn't know you have a liveID until you log in... hence why it requires you to login. Whereas the email knows you have one because you have been sent the email.

THIS EMAIL IS NOT ASKING YOU TO SIGN UP!!! It is allowing you to change your newsletter subscriptions etc.
