I decided to try Nod32. It seems good, but I can't tell what it is doing as with Avast. And, if I keep it, then I'll have to pay for it in 30 days. What's with Avast Home (free)? It is supposed to be 64-bit ready.

You are getting some nice number and i agree about the resourse hog Vista is not that bad it is according to what it is doing on any given day it varies, I have been as low as 24% and some days a little higher. I am not sure if I read wheather you gotten into your new rig yet. I am using Symantec Corp 10 with Vista and boy what a difference conpared to a plain Norton 2007 which I have used for years. My next rig will have the C2D probly with a Asus P5b Deluxe MB and my wife will get this one to replace her P-3 Asus CUV-266 1 gig rig which is just fine for what she does on the web. Enjoy

i only get 412.3 with passmark on vista but i get over 1000 on xp! wtf?!

Thanks airman. No, I don't have the new one yet. I am eager, but I didn't want to wait to get my second Raptor and to start fiddling with 64-bit. Like you, I think, without some sort of what's-next challenge, I get a bit bored. Good luck on your next machine.

Very interesting Sean; the difference seems to great to me. I have forgotten, but, as I recall, you are running 64-bit, right? Regardless, if you haven't try running using "advanced performance" on your hard drive and choosing "best appearance" for the way Vista runs,then give these settings a shot. "Best performance" is too ugly, and "best appearance" aways beats "let Windows choose" on my machines. I doubt it would matter, but you also could delete your hibernation file if disk space is an issue.

Im on 32bit vista, to many driver issues for using 64bit

Ill try turning of aero.. and disk space is not a problem
