Every year i buy a new computer and this year is no different. Might sound a bit strange but its just one of those thing i do.....dunno why Anyways i gave my current machine away to a friend as a birthday present last night and now i have ordered my new computer. As you can see i build my own systems because its customized to my needs and its cheaper than buying a manufacture PC.Total cost was a bargain price of £176 and 85 new British pence Kingston 2GB DDR2 533MHz/PC2-4200 RAM £26.16 ![]() MSI 945GCM5-F V2 Socket 775 onboard VGA 8 channel audio mATX Motherboard £30.99 ![]() Lancer Silver Full Aluminium Mid Tower Case £15.40 ![]() Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 2.20GHz Socket 775 800FSB 2MB Cache Retail Boxed Processor with Intel Heatsink and Fan. £74.93 ![]() Western Digital WD800JD Caviar SE 80GB 7200RPM SATAII 8MB Cache £29.37 ![]() I have kept my Nvidia 7200 GS because the Intel onboard sounds a bit sucky and i have tons of DVD writers laying about. So should serve me well till 2009, will probably get a quad core next year and an 8800 as the prices will be a fraction of what they are now in 2009. So i will be getting this some time next week and i will be installing a 30 day trial of Vista Home premium until i can buy a full copy, but thats only around £70 if i get the upgrade edition. |

| I think that's an excellent tradition! What a lovely birthday gift, and because you build them you know them literally inside out, if he had a problem. The prices you got on the components are amazing! With prices like that it is way more economical to build. That will be a cool machine. |

| Yes I'm actually quite pleased with the price and my old machine is being put to good use too. I would recommend anyone who is thinking of getting a new computer, that they should look into making a custom machine. If its your first time making a new machine it can be quite daunting but do a little research and you will be fine. The main thing you have to double....no triple check is that the CPU heatsink and fan are properly mounted. |

| I agree and my next one may very well me a DIY machine. I want to learn more and there is no better hands-on experience than building your own. The installation of the CPU and heatsink are the scariest parts too. If there is not the right layer of thermal paste between the two the CPU can fry. I like the ones that have it included on the heatsink. There are kits and components at CBit my local store but last time I checked the prices were much higher than what you got. That's why I opted to buy the system I am running now,a pre built, regular retail system (very good price) |

| I get one every 18 months. I say I am going to do something with them and they just sit in my junk room. After a while I just take them apart and save the spare parts. Then after a bit longer I throw away the parts..lol The machine I am using now I may keep a bit longer, its one of the water cooled dells.. |

| I find that after building the first one, it gets a little less nerve racking the next build, and so on, I am always a little excited until that first beep for the start up post and getting into the bios, to set the time etc, usually after that, its a cake walk barring any complications. Just swapped a M2NBP-CSM out for a M2NSLI Deluxe with a AMD 4000+ over clocked to 2.5 for now, but it ill be upgraded to the Phenom some time in the future. I have a friend that just bought a HP and it cost him he says $20.00 to have then remove some of the HP startup programs and it still takes quite a bit longer to boot than my 4000= and his is a 6000+. The case is so small to work on you need hand of a child. The case must get pretty hot inside because of the small space but it has turbo on the PS which makes the fan spin faster. I will build my own for as long as I am able but do not get me wrong there are good system prebuild to be had on the market you just have to shop for the one that fits your needs.
