NewSID disaster 500.000$ involved.

Hello,
Can you please help me, I have "lost" my data from pc after using NewSID. I tried to change sid and then after 40 min of display message "changing new sid" I restarted computer. After reboot I got an little surprise, All my files are gone, some programs loaded from programfiles. Then I saw that there are two users in the user folder, before, was only one called "mis" (no password) and now there is this second user"mis.mis-PC" from here I can access program files, documents (empty), desktop (empty) but I cannot use most of the operations that use "user account control" so I cannot access user "mis" because popup asks me to enter password to gain control, but there is no field to enter password and the "OK" button is grey (nonclickable). When I want to switch user there are: "mis" and "other user" icons. Same problems are found using any of them...
Can you please help I have data of my work form 6 months ago, ( I know backup , backup...) and losing of that data would be disastrous for my work 500.000$ value ( I know: backup , backup...), but please if you could help me with this, it’ll save my life. Thank you.

You could try this tip to reset the password on the original account, then login to that account and access the files:

Thanks...

I know rstrui has saved me a few times in XP. I have not tried it in Vista yet myself. PC Magazine a few months back says it can be done. I may just have to try it on Tuesday and see. I would hate to think I can do it and find out when I need it I cant. That would be bad!!

You are very welcome. I have never used rstrui.exe directly. Are you talking about using it directly? Regardless, I have used Vista system restore many, many times--especially in the early Vista beta days. For one thing, I, when possible, do a retore back to a point before when I installed a program I have just uninstalled.

The command is %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

I have had a very hard time resoring when using Vista. I am not sure if its my hardware config or something else. When I use on XP I dont recall having any problems if I catch it quick. Sometimes nobody calls me until its way to late to use system restore. I have had times where there is no restore point to go to because someone turned it off or was messing around in there before they called me.

In Vista machines I get after waiting 15-20 min that it was unable to resore and I have to reinstall Vista.

To be fair, I thing it was when I was messing around with the new version of Nero and I went to Roxio and have had no Vista problems since.

The funny thing is with Roxio I cant use System works. Either Roxio or Symantec needs to find a fix.
