This isn't a specific Vista question. And this isn't a post asking about other antivirus. I do know about AVG and AVAST and others. The question is: I have one computer the Dell computer that came with Vista Home Premium and came (paid for) Norton antivirus 2007 for 18 months - preinstalled at Dell. And this Dell Vista does have the Norton disk with product key numbers on a sealed disk. When I open this Norton it states: Norton Protection Center and Norton Internet Security. I also have an older Windows XP computer that has a retail (disk) version of Norton antivirus 2007. Yes, a different disk with a different product key. I do understand that Norton 2007 comes in various "suites" or stand alone antivirus. I think my XP only has the stand alone Norton 2007 antivirus. This past week a popup box appears on my Dell Vista from Norton telling me that there is a special download needed. Not the run of the mill live update. But a special download. Free. Long process and I had to register in order to get the download AND put in my product key numbers. I did this. But I have no real idea if this is a legitimate Norton thing and Norton email support is non-existant. Nor did this special download appear on my Windows XP computer with Norton antivirus 2007. It only showed up on my Dell Vista with Norton 2007. My question is: Anyone out there have Norton 2007 and did he/she receive this special notice for a special download that required registration and PRODUCT KEY in order to get it? And anyone know why this special download appeared only on my Vista computer and not my XP computer? Thank you. |

| I have stopped using the Norton products since I went to Vista and use the Symantec Corp 10 but i know yours came with the system and is it a beta version of the software by chance and they updated it to a full version this i got of the net. When you first launch Norton Internet Security 2007, you'll see Norton's Protection Center, which displays the now-common green-yellow-red security rainbow. So they are interrelated but i cannot help with the question but am doing google to see if i can help with your issue. Ha was it something like this you might of been entitled to this update Norton™ Add-on Pack * Norton™ AntiSpam automatically filters out annoying and dangerous fraudulent or phishing emails from your email in-box. * Norton™ Parental Controls blocks access to Web sites not suitable for children. * Confidential Information Management alerts you if unauthorized sensitive personal information is being sent out over the Internet via email, instant messaging or Web pages. * Available only with valid subscription of Norton Internet Security™ 2007 (or later version) or Norton 360™. to from Norton

I am about one year into the 18 months of Norton that came with Vista computer. Preinstalled. I have just never heard of an 'update' download that I had to put in my product key numbers. What's that all about? I don't like the fact that it asked me to register product after the download, then the product key. In fact, I have no idea if this actually came from Norton. What proof do I have that Norton sent me this? Norton has zero email support. So I mailed a real paper letter to Norton in California. If I don't get a response, I will just dump Norton. I guess my question is: Anyone out there with Norton have this happen recently? Or at all? |

| When I did run Norton i did see updates that were other than definitions but never had to put the key in for any reason. I have search all over the net for this issue and have yet to see anything like this except your problem. I myself would be a little leary about the update my self the software you have it is a all in one suite with firewall and anti-virus and spyware all rolled up into one if I am correct.
