My new laptop came with an Office Home & Student 2007 trial. Since I'd already purchased the software I activated it with the product key. Since I use PowerPoint to develop sewing classes for on-line use, I purchased the Office 2007 Standard upgrade. Loaded it into the laptop ... First problem was that it replaced my Windows Mail with Windows Outlook as the default (I don't want to use Outlook unless someone can tell me that I really should). So I switched back to Windows Mail. Is there a connection to Outlook that needs to be addressed? Or is it o.k. to use Windows Mail? And do I need to change any settings? Second problem was that my documents still came up reading "non-commercial use only". I had assumed that the upgrade to Standard would automatically override the student version ... guess not. I uninstalled the home/student version and that solved the "non-commercial use" message, but then I started having issues with IE7 (posted a question about this in "Bugs" area). Thinking that this installation did something to the overall system, I uninstalled it. Because I was having so many problems I had the system run a recovery with automatic data backup from its hidden files. Except for the IE7 problems I'm having, it's a wonderful system. However, I am afraid to re-install the Office Standard upgrade. Any suggestions? Aside from these issues, by the way, I really like Word 2007 and Powerpoint 2007. They are easy to use and I'm creating some great stuff with them! |

| first of with Outlook and a dial-up connection you might be better of using Windows mail and the only setting are to make sure the Windows mail is the default and sure you can try outlook just open it up and it will guide you thought setting up a e-mail account. Second did you upgrade to the full version having the trial version still installed in the system and if you did i think that is were you went wrong because according to the MS web site this info The free trial version of Office 2007 Home and Student Edition is not a qualifying product for upgrade to any Office 2007 edition. The following products qualify for upgrade pricing to Office 2007 Standard Edition: -- Microsoft Works 6.0–10 -- Microsoft Works suite 2000–2006 or later -- any 2000, 2003, or 2007 Microsoft Office program or suite [except free trial versions] -- any Microsoft Office XP suite except Office XP Student and Teacher. If one of these products is installed on your computer, then you can get the Office 2007 Standard upgrade version. If not, then you need the Office 2007 Standard full version. This may pertain to your problem or not I am not sure but this is the info I have found doing a web search.

| No, I have the full Office Home & Student 2007 which I purchased at Best Buy, and actually loaded into the laptop (not realizing the laptop came with the trial version). Then I went back to Best Buy and purchased the standard edition upgrade. I'm going to get the IE7 issue straightened out before I load anything more into the laptop (since I may have to take it back to the beginning anyway) and then try it again. Thanks, Airman. |
