Dell 4100 desktop given to me. Originally had Windows ME. To cut to the chase - and leave a lot of details out, I got Vista Basic on it. My oh my, did that computer run slow. I couldn't take it. It did work but barely - in my opinion. So I advertised it For Sale in a regional printed things for sale type phamplet. Computer, keyboard, and an old CRT monitor I had in the closet. I got one call. Guy came up and bought it. 5 weeks later I get a call from the guy and he called just to tell me how good a deal he got and he loves the computer. It came in a message on my answering machine. And he wasn't sarcastic or anything. He stated he got a good deal. Each to their own, I guess. |

| There is no N in MHz. Opps. Yes, he was an older person upgrading a real old machine as he told me. So this was probably a Lexus to him. I had previously tried to load some of my older software and the machine crashed. I had to reload Vista one extra time. After that I was quite careful as to what software I tried to load. Then it worked OK. I started it and restarted it a couple of times just to show him that it did work. But the performance was aweful for me, but great for him. Before loading Vista on that machine, I did some of those free Vista tests or Vista compatibility tests. This machine met the minimum requirements. Upon loading Vista, it worked but I could not get onto the internet. I had to purchase a new 10/100 ethernet card. I also had to replace the sound card, but I had one hanging around. Vista upgrade advisor never mentioned these. Or if it did, I don't remember. For an old novice punter as myself, it was an interesting learning curve. And now someone else has a computer that they really like. I didn't make any money on the deal, but I didn't lose any money either. And it forced me to get a new Vista pre-loaded desktop. Another Dell refurbished. |
