| I just came from the Avast web site, my version apparently needs an update. While viewing the pdf installation instructions (to find out if I need to uninstall my present one), twice I heard the Vista chime. The first time I closed the page, thinking I had clicked something and not realized it, but it happened again. (edit) Just found outAvast has some sounds it makes so it might be that. (never had that before so I wondered about the significance of it. Last edited by Vistanoob : 09-10-2007 at 10:26 PM. |

| Ok disable Avast's sounds, right click the Avast icon in the tray then from there...Program Settings -> Sounds -> Tick Disable Avast Sounds. See then if you still get the vista chimes, if you do you know its coming from somewhere else.

| Excellent idea!! of course, thanks! I didn't know about the right-click option, handy!!Just tried it. How cool to find all those settings without having to launch the program. (I always find it kind of freaky, strange interface). I'll be going back there a lot. Now for part 2. Last edited by Vistanoob : 09-10-2007 at 11:47 PM. |

| Yep, I went back to the pages which prompted the sound and I saw some pale yellow links, which were probably the source of the sounds. With sounds disabled it was silent. The sounds in Avast, when it updates, and those chimes, startle the bejeepers out of me. I'll like it a lot better quiet. Nice to know the source of unknown sounds. Appreciate the input which speeded up the solution a lot. |

| Myself I sort of like the SOUNDS from AVAST. "Your version has been updated" .. YES every day and sometimes 2 x a day. "Virus found", wow what a siren, I love it... but then each to there own. "Suspicious EMail" But then I am a "Will Robinson Fan" ... Warning Warning.. I love to know that My AV is working....

| !!!Yikes!!! a siren?? I'd hit the ceiling! My friends tread carefully around me as I've got nerves like a cat. But yeah I have to agree that ( in a startling way!) (LOL)it is sort of a comfort. The little blue sphere also clues me in to activity too and I think that's cool. My message was in a green pop-up which prompted me to install the newest version,(didn't do) which was unlike the regular new definition updates which do happen ,yes, twice a day at times. This is the first time I ever saw a green pop-up with that message. |

| That's what I understand, the only reason I hesitated was because I wasn't sure about having to uninstall the current one, or whether it means having to do the whole license key thing again, and I was in the middle of something else. I am aware that updated versions exist for a good reason and I am into running current programs. I just wanted to know those things first. So wil it just upgrade on top of the current one? I'm security conscious but also relatively new to computers and like to do my homework before downloading anything. ("nervous noob???") I know where you're coming from it's good advice, thanks again.Last edited by Vistanoob : 09-11-2007 at 02:28 AM. |
