Question/Thoughts

All versiions of Vista (and Office 2007) will be shipped in one DVD. If one purcahse a particular version, e.g. Home Premium, could one install and upgrade to Ultimate for example and pay the difference? Could retailers and PC manufactures have that option?

The Vista welcome screen will allow you to instantly upgrade your system to any other version... you just pay the upgrade cost and get an upgraded key... so yes felix it is do-able Each DVD will have the full version on it, but the menus will be edited to your version, atleast i think that's the case!

I think crabby is right felix. And, that takes care of my issue doesn't it? I just get my free Business upgrade and then pay some more $ to MS aand move on to Ultimate. Right, huh?

I'm sure MS did include all versions of Vista in one CD for a reason; it make sense to me. But in your case, upgrading to Ultimate from the Business edition, would you have to pay Microsoft or Gateway, and how much?

I am betting the MS has handled the situation so that it gets the bucks. And, I suspect I'll have to pay the full differential upgrade price.

Is there a way for you to check with Gateway, since you are a customer? I think most of us would like to know the answer.

I will be checking soon--after the carpet tomorrow and setting the new system up on Saturday. I need to call them about an apparently missing add on anyway.

Znod, I wonder if you ever found anything with Gateway about the subject above? Thanks.

No, I am going to wait until it is time to upgrade to go down that path. I suspect the path will be through MS.

Send a message via MSN to Snuffy
Reference my upgrade

When I was upgrading from 5840 to 6000, and did not have my key available ea time I entered a WRONG Key,(2 times) I had a link offer "to purchase a new key".. So I'd have to say, when its time to go from Basic or business or Premium to Ultimate or your choice you can click the "Purchase a new Key" and MS will sell you a correct "Key" for the Version you want. Might be different if you bought from Dell or HP or Tiger.
