| Well... to answer your question about hibernate vs sleep. Hibernate effectively turns the system off where as sleep keeps the system running in a low power state. So hibernate will be better for your heat issue. crabby |

| Hibernate vs Sleep vs (Shutdown) OFF... I have Sleep disabled... for everything... I have Hibernate uninstalled and disabled. yet when I click SHUTDOWN , and it only takes about 30s to shutoff, all the lights go off, the computer is (apparently DEAD). but it restart it i use the Pause key on the keyboard and the system comes alive (like it starts from hybernate or sleep). about 1m... goofy as can be... and MS says I have something not set correctly... Now if I wait until it is DEAD the switch the PS to OFF. All HOT KEYS are disabled.. This is not annoying just a BUG that I am trying to figure out...

You cant switch the os off and expect it to download stuff. All you can do is allow the PC to turn off all non essential hardware and throttle voltage to the CPU and RAM etc. crabby |

| I think you'll be able to do what you are seeking, download while the PC is in a lower power state, it's called Away Mode. This is something I found out by going through a Power Point Presentation. I've not try it, so I don't know how well it'll work, but you can go here for more info: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system...aymodeDDK.mspx For your info, I downloaded and placed some files in my share folder at: http://www.box.net/shared/nioyg710zm. If the link don't work, please let me know. You can also try this link: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&r...ista+away+mode Last edited by felix8406 : 06-30-2007 at 03:53 PM. |

This is also a ASRock ALiveXFire-eSATA2 mobo. This might be a MOBO BIOS setting... or just a ASRock Mobo problem.

| I think my WIFE a non computer person found my problem. She ask me this morning why was there only two lites on the router instead of 3 like normal... DOH, so I checked the power options. which I find NEEds lots of explaining. Mostly I use the default setting, but have NEVER on shut off the HD's, or the Moniter. but the strange thing is I set the Wireless Adapter to MAXINUM Performance. you only have 3 settings to pick Low , Medium, Max. Decided to check the oter options.. WOW, the setting are strange and not very well explained. and I am CERTAIN THIS IS WHY MANY PPL ARE HAVING some annoying power options problems. wonder what the difference between the Start menu power button = sleep is compared to the Power Button Action = Shutdown. (This is a DESKTOP NOT A LAPTOP.)
