Now this is something worth discussing. Finally some attention being given to what companies live/die by; backups. http://blogs.zdnet.com/Bott/index.php?p=68 |

| As the article says, all too many users don't ever think about this - certainly in many corporate environments desktop backup is not considered important either - I speak from personal experience here. One of the reasons given has always been that there is not a decent built in tool in Windows to do backups - I have used Windows Backup and it seemed to work (never had to use it in anger) but it was a bit primitive and inflexible. Vista Backup looks a step forwards, but a full blown image backup isn't the only thing needed - what about ongoing incremental backups of specified files/volumes? From what I have seen, the shadow copy functionality that comes closest to addressing this requirement won't be available on the home copy of Vista but will on the business versions, shame, but might easy some tech. support lives, especially if it can be configured as part of a standard build? Has anyone experimented with this type of thing yet? |
