| Am I, perhaps in my ignorance, the only one to be kind of surprised by the almost continuous harsh words directed at Vista by tech mag authors. (not all of course but some of my favorites) If I listened to all of that I would never have had the guts to go out and buy a Vista machine. These guys use their computers as productivity units, and for me they're a hobby (which grew from a practical need for my first computer in late 2003), so my perspective is naturally very different. To me though it is so negative. Just my thoughts. (kinda makes me sad) When XP came out I had never been near a computer and was petrified of them! So I have little basis for comparison about reception of a OS. |

| I try not to let reviews and news make my mind up of what i think about a product. When tech people write these articles, they either go from there own experiences or from what other people have experienced. But who's to say your experience will be the same as everyone else's, you have to give stuff a fair chance and in the case of Vista im glad i did because i love it

| I'm not swayed either, and I'm so glad I have it now. I love it too. So far, even though it needed a driver update shortly after I started using it (causing temporary black screens) my experience has been flawless. Driver updates are an inevitable part of a new system's development and thankfully I have enough theory to really understand that aspect of it, so I wasn't at all worried. Its great to hear other positive reviews. I almost lived at the local tech stores playing with before I got my own, and was so glad it became so affordable. |

| Some people don't mind change, others will rather stick with the old. Those who like to stick with the old will find as many excuses why the new doesn't work or is not needed, which is OK. The thing I don't like is when someone make a comment or write a bad review simply to say something without first validating their comments. I like Vista. I think it's a vast improvement over XP and will be looking forward to better things. |

| That's astonishing, when one considers the exposure these articles get! How could that be responsible journalism??? And it is true that often it's the naysayers who are most resistant to change. I welcome it!! To me learning new software is a blast, and I have found many pleasant suprprises in Vista including the awsome search engine! I've used it a lot already. I'm a Vista enthusiast and think it's great! ![]() |

| I am fairly new to the world of computers also Vistanoob --- I had Windows ME for almost 6 years --- and I was living in some cubicle of bliss --- more likely I didnt know any better. I heard all the noise about crashes and blue screens etc. I never experienced any of that. In March of this year I bought a new Dell and it came with Vista Home Premium installed. Problems ? NO. Things I didnt understand ? Sure -- I joined this forum and those got fixed by simply asking others more knowledgeable than myself. I am in no position to judge for others what is right or not ---- I just know I am happy, my system gives me no trouble, I have learned the OS enough for my needs. I will leave the criticisims to the "experts" as I am not qualified. This I do know --- this forum is great for both ends of the spectrum -- computer savy and/or not so savy. I can ask a dumb question and the people here always help me out. There are other forums that are not so civil.

| I cut my teeth, so to speak on XP and lived in that same cubicle of bliss. I have never seen a BSOD, either. I loved it right from the start even though I was terrified that I'd manage to break something before I got the typed assignments done, that I'd bought it for. I even loved the little dog, on the first day when I thought that opening a new program automatically closed the previous one and after about I had opened about 10 windows, my system froze and the little dog turned its back to me. (entertaining in my panic) Somehow my system reset itself and all was ok. Plus I love the colors. |

| This reminds me somewhat of an article in a Macintosh mag about Win XP soon after it was released. The author, the editor no less, compared the new Mac OSX with the new Win XP. He made comments such as "XP is ugly and needs at least a 17" screen to use it as the title bars take up too much room", despite the fact that the title bars can be resized to any thickness in XP. Many Vista bashers are making similar uninformed comments. Such as calling Vista the "new Windows ME", despite the fact that ME barely had 2 years shelf life, coming between Win 98SE 1999 and Win XP 2001. MS could have forgone ME and no one would have noticed too much. If Vista is similar to ME, its that Vista is evolultinary rather than revolutionary. No massive innovations perhaps to make a jump from XP neccessary in the same way that made a jump from 98SE to XP a good idea. However, unlike ME, vista will have a longer shelf life. Does anyone here expect a new version of Windows (Vienna) to appear before 2009 or more likely, 2010? Remember, XP was 6 years old befor Vista was available to the masses. Don't get wrong, I'm not an MS fan, nor do I have shares in MS. I think some journalists are lazy and follow rather than lead. Rather than coming out with firm reasons why Vista is no good, they follow the herd and recycle the usual usual "Vista sux" arguments. |
