Vista is mis-behaving or gremlins about.

I surrender so I turn to the VB detectives. Last evening I "shut down " my computer. It went through its normal sequence and all was well. Approx 3 hours later I walked by the den and noticed my computer was flashing a light on and off - the monitor was dark. I moved the mouse and the monitor came on and it was "logging off". At this point I pulled the power. Re-connected to power and it booted up and went directly to the "logging off" display again.
A once more pulled the power off.

This morning , I reconnected to power, computer booted properly . I have shut down and rebooted several times to see if I could replicate the problem - no luck --- all is well.

So , there is no current problem but I am curious if anyone can shed some light on this.

Check under Events Viewer, and find which program caused the problem...
it either will show as WARNING or ERROR or Critical.
I think you had a VIRIS-Trojan trying to pass info... very common today in as much that MS has failed to update properly and left many OPEN bad spots.

I recommend a FULL run of TROJAN and Viris SCAN other than Bit Defender
SPYBOT does a very good jog... and which ever Viris Scanner you have RUN A full Scan... (hopefully it is not Nortons or Symantec which bypasses/overlooks the last two major threats..) the Email and mouse cursor infection...

Ummmm this sounds stupid but are your power settings set to put your PC to sleep mode? My monitor flashes when in standby and when i knock my mouse its logs me out as my power settings are set to log me out on resume.

But i think when you pulled the plug....u most have broke something try a mem test and try booting Vista in safe mode and running system file checker.

I have run a full scan with McAfee --- nothing.

I was going to download SpyBot search& destroy and Adaware personal SE but both do not indicate they are Vista compatable.

Computer appears to functioning properly.

I dont know where to find "Event viewer"

Last time I checked McAfee also missed the latest versions of XXXXX.
AD-ware works great with Vista... I have been using SE v1.06 for some time and NO PROBLEMS... but the BETA version is BAD STUFF... do not recommend you testing it..

Symantec, McAfee and Sophos are listed as DID NOT FIND. The patch will be released today... hang in there...

Security Watch: Major Windows Vulnerability Found
Microsoft's Patch

Microsoft has announced that there will be two patch Tuesdays in April. A special one will happen on Tuesday, April 3, when the company will release a single update for a critical vulnerability in Windows, the .ANI bug described above. None of the usual accessories, like an update to the Malicious Software Removal Tool, will be included.

In all likelihood there will be a second Patch Tuesday next week on April 10

I downloaded Adaware Build 1.06r1 and it worked OK --- found nothing remarkable ( some tracking miners which I removed). I will see what happens this evening when I shut down. Thanks Snuffy, Znod, Anthony for your help-you guys are great !

I may be sorry I asked about the "event viewer" Snuffy. LOL

I see this -- appears to happen whenever computer is booted.

Driver DLACDBHM.SYS blocked from loading

can I fix this?
