I keep reading articles that hint that Microsoft will again push back the release date, but are holding off from doing so. The only problem with the reports is they come across more as speculation or anti-Microsoft desire than anything concrete.

So what is the general sentiment? Will Vista be released on time or will it fall further back into 2007?

I think most people will agree that MS delivers late more often than not, so it is certainly possible. But the official word from MS is that they don't plan to be late. Still, I wouldn't bet against it.

I think the industry likes to be late, it builds suspense for a product and generates publicity. Same thing happened with HL2 when the source code was hacked and the game was delayed a year.

I guess all of that is true. Since they missed the Christmas 06 season, it doesn't really matter when in 07 they launch.
