| It's a new system to me.. being a maccie (ibook g4).. But I like it a lot better than XP.. I'm running it on a Dell Inspiron 1200, basic student model.. I upped the RAM.. So it's running pretty smoothly, and I seem to have the networking and wifi kinks worked out. It's easier to navigate then XP.. The graphics are kinda maclike.. At least they are better than the ugly XP stuff. No Aero in this underpowered PC.. and I'd like to know why the system has such high specs for graphics when my iBook g4 PPC--1.33 mhz, 1 gig RAM can run much better graphics. I do like the better security features. As I don't keep personal info on this , I'm using the built in firewall, AVG Free, and firefox. any d/l's I scan with AVG,, so far so well. And Norton will never be allowed to enter this system.heh I'll be posting some questions in the right threads soon.. I welcome the help. Right now UAC worries me as being weak.. thank you. ![]()

| After many months of using Vista, fixing little problems here and there and trying new tricks, I'm mostly satisfy. The 32Bit version has run almost flawlessly and although my laptop windows experience index is a whopping 1, as in one, it work extremely well, especially after I added 1GB of RAM. I feel kind of disappointed with the 64Bit version though. For a while Microsoft had talked about the 64Bit being the way of the future, but it appears that they kind of forgot about its existence. Drivers continue to be an issue with the Vista 64Bit version, as it was with the Win XP 64Bit...not many improvements there. |

| 1. Hate - Resources Hog ... 2GB installed, and some thing actually want more. 2. Love - Speed - faster than XPSP2 Corp. by extreme amounts. 3. HATE - Search/help online - almost not, XP SP2 was 95% to 98% better, faster and easier to understand. 4. Love - Search on system is very fast. If your HDD's are indexed. if not indexed, very slow... I do use Index. 5. Love - Copy to - once the patch was applied, the copy to is fast .. after registry hack copy to is very fast. on tests about 25% faster than XP. 6. HATE - Move to - ungodly slow. wastes memory, makes too many copies before it moves.. 1. copies to verify, 2. copies into Shadow, 3. moves to new source, 4. then verifies, 5. then verifies against the shadow copy. (finished) what a total waste of memory, and time. 7. UAC is both love it for security hate for the wasted click click click. I am a Type "A" person. (Added the reg mod so now I only have 1 click.) 8. IE7 - MS Search - HATE - Google Search addon is LOVE 9. Auto internet search and setup is Fantastic... - Love- 10. Ultimate - HATE not much to see in Ultimate Waste of Money. MS promised lots but have given very little. 11. WMP 11 - love - needs fewer codecs to play. Gives Higher Quality Over All I enjoy Vista, have converted all my systems to Vista... 12. Vista MVP blogs - Love- are simply the greatest... 13. HATE some websites that claim to have the latest info... and when you read many forums and other sites... they are about 1 day late with all the news. 14. Love #12 .. they actually work on this OS and or parts of it, and give super tips, how to, and why to do, and why not to do, sometimes it takes lots of reading to understand.. but I'm retired and do like to READ.. PS: they also have RSS subscriptions.

| Hi everyone. I'm finally getting to know my way around Vista on my own new computer and so far I really enjoy using it. The changes in the interface, like the removal of the "Add/Remove" programs from the Control Panel was interesting when I wanted to get NIS out of my system, but within a very short time I was uninstalling it by following the written headings and instructions. If one takes the time to read, the directions to the tasks become evident. I love Areo, and agree that it does use a lot of video RAM, but the effects are gorgeous! I did install my own favorite browser and e-mail app, and they installed without a hitch. I love the mahjong and the chess games! I did need a driver update, but that's to be expected. I'm still new into this experience but as of now I give Vista a solid thumbs up!!! ![]() |

| The one thing that Vista is not too good at is during boo and shutdown, even Vista SP1; too slow for my taste. Shutting it down is not such a big thing as you can always walk away before the process has ended. However, a few seconds during the starting process can sometimes feel like an eternity. |
