vista and xp

hello all

i have a question, if i go back to xp will i see a performance change? i love vista but im starting to feel as if vista doesnt need to take an extra gig of ram just to have cool features.

i have a good computer but i dont really feel like i am getting the most out of it because of vista.

Welcome. How about giving us your specs? We'll be able to give more informed opinions if you do.

2.4 dual core Intel or AMD and you have a very good system as far as it looks I have 3 version of Vista i am running and I build all the systems myself and have been a beta tester for 3 years. I think is is everyones own preference at this place and time, but Vista is getting a bad name in some corners. Like today I was in a retail store buying a HVR-1600 tuner card for my one system and a lady had nothing good to say about Vista, it let a worm into her hard drive, and destroyed her system. Plus vista uses ram in a different way than XP my systems run about 36-38 percent usage with 3 gig of ram in a system and my systems are up 24-7 and the longer they are up the more ram is used so when they get to about 50 percent I shut them down turn the PS of and let then sit about 2 hours and then reboot and they are then back to the 36-38 percent. I am getting ready to try Linux full time one of these days myself just for fun so enjoy what ever OS you use.

Your system should be fine with Vista or XP. So, now, why do you think you are not getting the most out of your computer? You mentioned speed. XP is faster, but would it be noticeably faster on your machine for most tasks? I doubt it. From heresay, I would guess that you would see a difference on gaming. So, if you are a semi-serious gamer, then you might want to go back to XP.

well yes, i am a serious gamer. i just feel like im not getting the most out of it because my system should be able to run games fine. honostly they do, but i want them to be finer than fine and i dont want something like vista to just hold that back.

and airman, its an amd fx 4600 (funny because when i bought it at frys, i asked for the 4200 and the guy at the register gave me a 4600 >:] )

It is possible that Vista is not up to the task you want to accomplish. Usually people complain about speed, not fineness though.
