| You are not supposed to buy and install it as OEM are for builders. However, you can purchase the OEM version along with a PC component to make sure you stay legal. If you are upgrading your own PC, you'll be considered a system builder for that PC.

Lets see now Lan cards average 12.00 to 15.00 USD or maybe swap out the old 3.5" floppy drive or add a multi-port USB2.0 card... for 9.95 USD...by selection which slot (you are Custom Builder.. ) ![]()

| Even when purchasing a more expensive item like a DVD burner, it'll still be cheaper than getting the retail version of Vista. My suggestion is to buy something useful that you know for sure you'll need. Snuffy does have some good suggestions though.

| You no longer need to have to buy a hardware componant to purchase OEM versions. You MUST be istalling it on a new system however. |

I really thought the Extra USB2.0 ports was the best... I have found that older USB 1.1 Ports simply will not Speedboost very well. my latest install was a internal multi-card reader (29) from TW. that included 2 USB 2.0 ports. Cost was $21.00 S&H included.. cheaper than TigerDirect and Walmart.(PS: you can use SD Memory cards for Speedboost that way.) and some old cowboys ![]()

| I checked www.tigerdirect.com an this is part of their Licensing Information for Windows XP OEM: “…This is a legal OEM version of Windows® licensed by Microsoft® to be sold with any "non-peripheral hardware component" and is bundled as such.” However, there’s no such statement for the purchasing of Vista OEM. Perhaps this has been changed by MS as implied to on previous posts.
